Top effort really, I cant envisage selling my V8 F Type to buy one - but it'll be interesting how the boxster EV compares to this.
One would imagine it'll be significantly smaller and lighter, and probably approaching twice the price (or at least 50% more expensive).
I guess it depends on what you call significant but I'll put money on it being within 100kg and 200mm.

Batteries are heavy.
If it was lighter, you'd complain about the range instead.
So they're (EVs) crap either way.

All made in China though

Just had a check on this front - cars made in Germany and Japan, phone and laptop from Vietnam (RoK chips). Probably loads of Chinese components in all those and a house full of bits and pieces from China, but have dodged the big-ticket tropes. Bathe in the blood of the oppressed or admit that you can't dodge every puddle?
Can't dodge every puddle but can avoid driving through a river..

With the US about to ban Tick Tock, and MI5 confirming UK Universities are being targeted, and whilst I'm well aware just about everything manufactured comes from China, but when a product is owned and run by the Chinese government it really makes me wonder if ethically, funding, and giving your data to them is a great idea.

Don't give them ideas...

It must be hard avoiding 5G, vaccines, lamp posts, EVs, LED lights and now all things Chinese?!

China Inside(TM)

Not sure many would be comfortable with the nation-state having access to their motor.

The TG video review - car looks really nice.

The big snag to me is £50k, when an MX5 is £28k

The MG badge has worked wonders for this car,
I genuinely don't believe there's much connection between badge and sports car sales. Build it, and they will come.

IMO the top five requirements for a sportscar are,
  • Styling
  • Styling
  • Styling
  • Performance
  • Reliability
and it looks to me as though Cyberster has got the first three of those ticked right out of the box. I'll definitely be taking a closer look in due course.

I find it comical that an ‘MG’ is being compared to an upcoming Porsche.

Shows the rise of one brand and the slide of another.

Spec for spec, I’d bet the Porsche costs 75% more and is within 10% of the size and weight.

Doors seem like an unnecessary gimmick plus it is weighty so not really a sports car.
It's a strange thing to add to the car given it's price.

I know of 3 people who bought MX5s brand new - female recruitment consultant late 20s, DINKY couple mid 30s and retired fireman late 40s.

I doubt any of them cared about weight or driving dynamics - those that shout the loudest about this probably aren’t in the market for a brand new one anyway.

Dont be silly. A couple of guys on PH mentioned the comparison, that's all.

It's certainly quite a collection of "looks" - MX5 front end, and then the back is a mix of supra with a bit of a Porsche tail light bar "swoosh" above. Doors are a surprise. I am thinking I'd feel a bit of a nob getting out of scissor doors in a regular-joe car, but then I suppose tesla kicked it off with their gull-wings.

As for the weight question - it's a fair one. Thing is, fat people don't care about cars' dynamic handling much. They just need big cup holders for Maccy D's. You don't see fat racing drivers. If you've owned anything light and fast you'll know that weight really kills the fun no matter how trick the electronic suspension is. You just can't undo inertia. BUT - 99% of people don't drive a car in the manner that the weight matters - they just don't care.

Good luck to them - it looks "OK". It certainly seems to be attacking the E-MX5 buyer.
What an odd post. I'm 6'1" and 16st, which is probably a couple more than I should be due to middle age and Hobnobs.

Despite this, I appreciate and indeed enjoy lightweight performance vehicles in the form of our Civic and TVR, not to mention our motorbikes.
