Hmmmmm, take a Landrover Defender, some tracing paper and.......................voila!!

The KIA EV9 is the same.

It would appear that all the design houses in the world, have had every piece of equipment stolen from their studios, with the exception of a ruler and a pencil.

Shame. £75k for a four pot makes this less appealing. At least the Defender and Ineos have interesting engines.

I’d take this over any Land Rover product period!

£80k is punchy.

I hope they sell loads. I don't know why an £80k Defender feels acceptable but for a mid-size Toyota SUV it seems extortionate despite the fact the Toyota will be by far the better ownership prospect.

Triumph of marketing I guess.

Why? Everyone I know I with a Defender loves it, and they are clearly better to drive and nicer to be in.

As any fule kno, in PistonHeadsLand Toyotas last forever and never break down whereas all Land Rovers break down before they've left the factory.

Since when was a 3 litre 6 cylinder diesel interesting?

That's one of the engines, not THE engine as is the case for Toyota in UK so far

If you want to go into the Sahara, always go for the Land Rover. If you want to get out on the other side go for the Land Cruiser.

Our farm workhorse vehicle is a 2022 Ford Ranger 3.2 v6 diesel which will be moved on next year and i was thinking of a new Defender but this new Land Cruiser is a possibility.

Toyota have lived up to the reliability hype with a couple of our previous workhorses (Rav4 & Hilux).

They have improved quite a bit over the last few years; serious issues in the first years of ownership are down from around 1/4 to 1/7.

That said, Toyota and Lexus are maintaining rates more in the 1/50 ballpark.

I’d have one in a heartbeat to keep forever if I had the means.

Will make a pretty decent used buy ins some years. Assuming the EV pitchfork mob haven’t manage to convince everyone else that diesel is witchcraft and their owners should be thrown in the river.

Pretty sure the aftermarket is already working on a first edition headlight kit to replace the square ones. So in a few years that’ll be sorted to thumbup

I like that, it's a good looking effort and you can see the silhouette from older generations of Land Cruiser.

But, a 4 pot doesn't really cut it in a car this size and weight. A nice, torquey V8 diesel would fit the bill nicely. Or a petrol V8.

How many people saying they’d love one would regularly actually use the off-roading ability to the full?

For most people better on road manners and performance is far more relevant.

Yes, disappointing how it seems to have balooned in price since first mooted. I suppose they are entitled to get as much as they can, and I'm sure they will have no trouble shifting as many as they can get here.
