Time for me to start either:

- Using rural roads only
- Using a cloned plate
- Drive like a complete R-sole, but under the speed limit
- Run over small children who get in the way, with someone elses plate on

The big brother thing is inevitable, but just how will the government pay for it?

It's ok. Many people are doing it for the gov't already. Who's got a webcam? The world can see you.

VOTE THEM OUT!

Never mind the arguments about "they're all the same" - GET THEM OUT!

If the next lot don't do a lot better GET THEM OUT, TOO! until they get the message. If I don't perform I won't survive (as a businessman) why should they?

Influence as many people as possible with a well-reasoned argument for the above and tell them to vote!

Trouble is this will be well on the way, if not completed, by the time we get another chance and something like this would be irreversible once in place.
I cant believe for one moment ANY citizen in their right mind thinks this is a good idea, we need a modern day Cromwell!

if a prisoner gets abused, human rights comes into play, but in this case, the prisoner has done something wrong which is why he/she has gone to prison in the first place. But what about the general motoring public who have done nothing wrong. we all are going to be watched as if we have comitted the biggest crime ever. where is our freedom?

just another way for the government to control our lives and turn us into robots.

tbh i really don't think there's anything we can do about it as not enough people will stand up to the government.

I don't mind too much as I am law abiding (okay I do speed a little but nothing excessive)

If you aren't up to anything illegal then there is nothing to worry about, is there

I can also see a lot of positives, imagine how easy it will be to trace young children who get abducted by nutters. That one positive for me outweighs my objections.

Compulsory cameras in your own home, that's a different story!

Having said that I have CCTV in and around my house that is viewable via the web if need be. If the alarm goes off I can get paged and log on securely to take a look.

The goverment are creating more criminals, cos if this goes ahead, then far more people are going to get banned from driving. Rightly so these people will feel very hard done by, which will lead to people driving while banned, thus uninsured etc etc. This will then but a mighty burden on the Government, and of course insurance companies will raise premiums to pay for all the uninsured drivers.

Well done Mr. Blair, another New Labour vote winner.

But you said if your not up to anything illegal there is nothing to worry about. Why is it ok for them to watch you in your car but not in your house?

Whoops.. Its happening already. See the story this week about the comming council tax revaluation. The inspectors will be photographing the interior of your house for valuation purposes.

This is frightening. Are they seriously trying to force everyone to leave the country? We will soon be a nation of chav sponging tag wearing zombies!

We are the most observed nation in the the western world.

What are they going to do when everyone is banned from driving, people dont work anymore and no one can pay tax?

If it's about revenue lets come clean, but of course that's not B'liar's style.

Time to buy a petrol powered angle grinder me thinks!

This infuriates me no end...its not enough for the police ACPO (sorry labour sidekick) to ignore the real motoring issues but spend heaviliy in areas of enforcement that are money spinners such as the likes of you and me who is going to pay up a fine as we always do and not punch a copper!

We now live in a police state where as of 2006 and beyond there will no escape from state observation. Anybody read 1984 George Orwell ?

Lets all unite as motorists and do something about it....If this was happening in France or Holland I'm sure people would take direct action.

Yes - I've read 1984 and its come true!

We do indeed need to unite and not just as motorists (not enough enthusiasts to make a difference) but as citizens - we are also taxpayers who are being shorn like sheep by this government. We need to make it clear the electorate want control and VOTE THEM OUT!

Never mind the arguments about "they're all the same" - GET THEM OUT!

i agree, they need to go, surely tony the tt and his band of halfwits must realise that by trying to introduce this and countless other stupid schemes thier just going to anger the electorate, or perhaps theyve realised this could be thier last term in power for a while and are dertermined to f**k the country up as much as possible for whoever gets in next time.

Whoever dreamed this up deserves to be shot, IMO. This kind of sh*t makes me SICK, and this paranoid, interfering, government makes me even MORE sick. Stealth taxes and SCAMS are bad enough, but this is a total breach of civil liberty.

On my way to work this morning (11 miles on mainly open, national speed limit A roads) I passed 3 SCAM vans, 6 BiB cars, as well as the 4 fixed cameras. It's bloody ridiculous, in 5 years I've only ever passed 1 serious accident (and that was someone in a van falling asleep at the wheel and hitting an oncoming car). I lost any remaining respect for the government and police several years ago. They can all FOAD.

If this scheme is implemented to monitor speed as described, then I'll relocate or sell my business and emigrate. Sad times when a so called 'democracy' can drive people to this conclusion. F*cking dictatorship - the majority of the population would NEVER agree to this.

How about a new tax. its called travel tax, basically the roads and public transport and getting overcrowded so they want you to stay at home. You will be allowed one long trip a week to visit family. They put cameras on the roadside and tap into CCTV if your spotted traveling to far or not on your allocated day you get fined.

I hear atheletes are going to be taxed because they use more oxegen than other people. So if you are seen running or doing any excercise where you breath heavely then you will be taxed

I can't recall these people asking for my permission to retain data for 2 years (Data Protection Act), still I assume they are exempt....
