When variable speed limits were introduced on the M25 my journey times were reduced. Everyone went along at a constant 50mph, rather than constantly accelerating then decelerating which seemed quicker but wasn't.

Well guys I must say I am glad I don´t live in the UK anymore after hearing about yet another ridiculous traffic scheme.
Feel sorry for you lot though

I'll second that. In fact, motoring aside, I highly recommend you leave that place. The quality of life is a million times better out here on the continent!

Where in the UK can you go out at 5.30pm and leave the bar at 5.30am!!???

(And I was still standing! )

If you aren't up to anything illegal then there is nothing to worry about, is there

Compulsory cameras in your own home, that's a different story!

But you said if your not up to anything illegal there is nothing to worry about. Why is it ok for them to watch you in your car but not in your house?

As I understood it, the camera won't be inside your car, they'll be in public spaces

I'm OK with that generally as long as it isn't abused (details sold to market research etc).

Like I said, the occasional occurence of it assisting in bringing a REAL criminal (not motoring offender) to justice far outweighs any argument I can make in opposing them.

Ideally, we should all live in a free world where there are no crimes and no need for cameras but sadly that isn't the reality.

I'm sure these have been placed on the A322 from Lightwater Surrey (Junc 3 M3) To Westend (Chobham).

Look on the left as you leave the Moterwar roundabout small camers mounted quite low on its own trellice type pole. then just before you hit the next roundabout there is another set.

Not like SPecs but all black and smaller.

Maybe they have been using this s a test site??

Anyway they probably know how often I play Golf and take my son to creche now.

Easy answer. Take your number plates off. There won't be any BiBs to stop you for this, and the cameras won't know who you are!!!

I dont believe the variable speed limit zones do help traffic flow, When using the M25 I find that it usually flows freely untill one reaches one of the variable limit zones, after which it bunches up into stop start motoring usually followed by a complete stop. As for the government there must be someone who voted the shower of S**T in for another term, but I dont know any. this lying bunch of sl*me have done incredible damage to the country and its people and they STILL find people who will vote for them. The problem is that there isnt really anything else that can be voted for either, just a matter of voting for the shower one feels will do the least harm (forget anything about a government that actually does some good!)and that certainly is the current shower of S**T.

better still - not to suggest anyone would, but just use another number plate from a similar car to yours, then drive anyway you want - they get the bill/fine/etc, you get away with it. I am sure this is what will happen and we get stuffed...........again.

How is it they can afford "Cameras every 400yds" But we have to wait five years for a "HIP Op"?? It's time we did to our police and politicians what the French did to their royalty..

And while they are at it how about spending some time and money on real crime?

Have they caught the guy who broke into my neighbours shed? No.
The chavs that chucked a breeze block through my other neighbours car window? No.
How about the ones that stole the car accross the road and torched it? Nope.
Surely the drug dealers must be a priority? Not so.
The lads chucking needles of a car park roof at passers by in the town centre? Zip.
The nutter who chases 6 year old girls home with his wotnot hanging out of his trousers? Nope*

*Have they even given the kids at school a "don't talk to strangers" talk? Nope.

Plenty of time for speed cameras though! No shortage of cash there.

No it won't be in your car but it is forward facing so it may as well be!

My argument to this is simple the Police Force in general is under manned & massively under funded for the type of service we expect & deserve, this scheme in noway shape or form will help that situation if anything it will give justification to cut public spending to the Police due to increased revenue through the camera system it will not make it easier to catch a criminal as they havent got the man hours to do so! it will make it easier to track one yes but what about the street crime that is the pandemic of this country this system will not help that it wont help catch a burgular unless he drives to your home in the car he stole to get there which means it's probably taxed insured so why bother tracking that one Hmmm!!

It's about time the Police were Politacised so that the people they are representing (that being us) got the vote on who gets the job, if this was the case would Brunstrum have been elected to his position as CC of Wales i dont believe so. Ok it's an American system n we aint America but if there careers and futures were in our hands through elections I think a lot more would be done to clean up the towns, cities & regions we live in as there policies would have to realte to the people they are trying to get support from.

They wonder why people dont respect the law/police any more they need look no further than this idea!

erm, call me thick, but i dont get it. its going to check insurance and mot(?) details every half mile. which is fine if the car is actually registered to a real person in the first place...

But why do they need to check each car 20 times in the space of 1 mile, these camaras will be used to stop people doing 71 in a 70.

When will people learn that Labour shafted the country last time they were in power, oh look whats happening now, they are doing it again.

It's not the oxygen use, it's the CO2 that they emit.

We need the law(sadly to many rules though!) but not this cr*p
My vote is...I vote them away! and put all those people on, lets say Antartica(in the freezer)

A question for all our IT specialists with bearing on this...
How the hell are they going to get the computing capacity to be able to run a system like this anyway? 40 million (?) vehicles running around and then being able to track them all.... IMHO just Bullshit. anyone know more? as I'm a 'puter numpty........

Absolutely, why every 400 yards if it is to check tax and insurance ??. Do the tax and insurance status change as we drive down the road ??.

Surely, if it was for these purposes, a set at each slip-road would be more than enough !!.

Blair is tunnel visioned on his "legacy". Just imagine being remembered as the prime minister who destroyed the British nation !!.
He will try anything and everything to avoid that, any blatently hair brained scheme which just might look good in some way. Bugger the consequences to the "free" citizens.

Well when anyone else is up for a revolt give me a shout.

I'm up for a nice big disruptive DRIVE REALLY REALLY SLOWLY AND *SAFELY* ON THE MOTORWAY MONTH...

If we get even 10% of the traffic doing this, the tailbacks will be horrendous.

Join me fellow citizens of what was once a great country, run by great men, and make it great once more!

Honestly though, you've got to start somewhere. I for one will be driving at 45mph "safely" and for the "good of the environment" on the way home tonight on the motorway.

If you see loads of lorries overtaking a slowbie westbound on the M62 tonight, thats meeee
