There's a guy works on the same estate as me used to work for panther. I know he was involved in the Solo project but dont know if he was there earlier for the 6 project. I will go ask!

Apparently there will be a Panther 6 on the Panther Owners Club stand at the Classic Car show at the NEC next month.

Sorry to crash this party guys but one of my fave cars from the eighties was also a six wheeler called the Wolfrace Sonic. The unique this about this car was that it had two Rover V8 engines. The car was fully functional and was build as a promotional car by the well know streerod builder Nick Butler for the Wolfrace Wheel company. Again does anyone know where the car is now? See what you think:

And twin diffs!!!!

The Sonic was for sale in the 'Lucky Dip' section of the Pistonheads classifieds quite recently (last couple of months).

Sprayed red and looking very sorry for itself in a box trailer somewhere.

The ad was to 'judge interest' it said, and gave a stupid asking price (something like £75K from memory).

Link to website here suggests that it may still be for sale, just down the road from you in Kent, if you're interested.

Wow, thanks for thew updates gus, I would love to see it back on the road but dont have the time money of skill to get it back up and running. Nick Butler was a hotrod god, Having ssen his Old Fordson Van "Hot and Bothered" back in the 70's, that was the car that got me into Hotrodding.

Whatever happened to the Panther Six? If I remember rightly there were three of these monsters built and I've long been expecting one to turn up at auction or being driven by one of the classic magazines, but nothing. Since shortly after their launch there has been complete radio silence. Does anyone know what happened to them. While I'm at it, I remeber being taken round Silverstone in a six wheel XJS pick-up owned by 100+ wheels. I remember it was fitted with an 8.9 ltr Chevy and drove through all four rear wheels. Anyone seen that one recently?

I also note that C&SC magazine is running an article in next month's issue.

Adding 2+2 together, does this mean it's about to go on sale? All this sudden publicity on a rare car is usually a sign that the owner is trying to drum up interest in the car prior to a sale at auction...

Could well be. Any guesses as to what it would be worth?

I hate to be negative, but looking at that.. all I feel is dissapointment. I wish I still had 'just' my memories of gaping at it as a teenager. That though, looks like what is probably was/is - a bad kit car.

Oh they've made a bit of an arse of that, what's the deal with the bonnet and mirrors? The grille looks pants now too.

In answer to some of the questions raised after the classic car show at the NEC, where incidentally the P6 won car of show, No it is not a kit car, bad or otherwise, it is one of the original 2 cars made ( confirmed by Bob Jankel in writing shortly before his death ). One car was painted Black and the other White with black stripe. This one has been re sprayed after the latter of the two. The reason for the bonnet and the wing mirrors looking different is because they are, the car some years ago was being lined up for sale in the States and these had to be changed to comply with American law, the workings of the windscreen wiper have to be hidden beneath the bonnet or something equally ridiculous. The car was at this time virtually re built ( there are photo's of the rebuild on the net, it was done in British Columbia) The trim being one of the main areas to suffer, the 60/40 bench seat was removed along with most of the electronics. The car is still being restored ( if anyone knows of a '73 cadillac eldorado front seat going anywhere? cant find one for love nor money ) and even then I know of no plans to sell it.

Hope this clears up a few details.

My kit car remark was unwarranted, I accept that. I was reflecting a connection between the kit car business and the low volume build by Panther, and possibly the way business was invariably handled. I have the Motor magazine issue featuring it still and a shot of me, as a nipper, standing next to it and gaping in awe.

Given your name, are you involved in the refurb of the seat?
