I wouldn't bother with the RAC site.
It is so, out of date.
It still shows my girlfriends private plate registered to it's last car. That was nearly a year ago that it was transferred!
The DVLA site is more up to date.
It shows the tax expiry date, make, model, colour, engine size, fuel type, number of owners etc.

www.vehiclelicense.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

When you get this, click on vehicle enquiry.
Good luck.

Interesting... my current car comes up as running on Heavy Fuel through the RAC site! What on earth does that mean? I thought it was a Dire Straits song

Heavy Oil means diesel.

I happen to know about my previous 2 cars - first one was sold to a mechanic who fixed the exhaust valve and replaced the clutch and sold it on - last heard of about 6 months ago still tooling around in Weston Super Mare.

Sold my Rover 25 through a broker and my brother has seen it a few times parked on a drive in Warwickshire.

Have searched for some of my dad's older interesting cars. His first Imp hasn't been taxed since the mid 80s and the Imp Sport was there until recently but is now untaxed so may have been scrapped One of his old Saabs is still taxed and was sold recently, his old 9000 Turbo is still on the road and has been spotted in Bham a couple of times

Stories of cars are fascinating - I occasionally update the previous owner of my T16S with how it's getting on

DVLA Website said:
The enquiry is complete
The vehicle details for M141 UBA are:

Date of Liability 01 09 2006
Date of First Registration 01 03 2005
Date of liability??

It was written off, is that what it means?

That means that the tax was due for renewal then - in other words, it wasn't renewed as it was written off.

The only car I've bought and do not still own is (was!) a knackered Audi 80 and that was scrapped a few years ago (unless the council lied to me and H461 MOO is still out there).

Just looked for my old Tuscan and it gives a date of Liability of Nov 2005 and that it's currently unlicenced... Hope it's OK

Just checked that DVLA site for my first car, a Cinque Sporting in red reg R679 BNT. Now I sold this over 4 years ago when the engine sounded distinctly like I'd thrashed it to death. According to the DVLA it's just been taxed for another 12 months!! Cheered me right up that has.

On my old Caterham the "liability" date is in the future - it's when the road tax or MOT are due I think from memory of when I used to get it done.

I'd like to know what happened to my old Mazda 323f, reg K389UJA. That was a great car. How do u check with the DVLA?
Try cars and owners reunited. Costs £10 subscription, but worth a shot.

That'll be a black Mazda 323 1.6 petrol then?

Last change of ownership was 14/8/05.

However, the tax ran out on 1/11/2005. Currently unlicensed.
