What's this car then.
Discussion
44 looks like one of those mayfly '60s sports-racers - maybe a Coldwell or a Chevron - in fact I'm sure I saw one racing in the Chevron-only race at Oulton Park last month. The red car is definitely a Piper GT. There was also a Piper GTT, which was a slightly more civilized version for the road, with pop-up headlights.

The photo is from Spa, any idea what race/year it's from?
The '44 in the recent 6hrs is listed as a "Austin Healey GTT"

The photo is not from Spa it's from Mallory Park, it's being used for advertising the Top Hat weekend on the Classic Driver website the photo comes from. I've checked the Sebring salute results for 2005 and there was no car number 44 running then, the entrants are not available yet for this year and I can't track down any 2004 results. So it must be another BRSCC meet at Mallory, just a bit of needle & haystack searching to do and I haven't got the time.

Is the Piper as in David Piper?
If only he'd had more money to develop the cars and make them more road-user friendly, we could be looking at new Pipers today battling Elises on track.
IIRC the editor of Classic & Sports Car has a Piper GTT.
Correction from earlier - the later model with the pop-up headlights was the Piper P2.
