So the Swaymar Capri
A run of two cars (since they were soo bleeding expensive to produce) and apparently only one remaining.
It's a 2.8i with a new engine, brakes, suspension and a naff bodykit for the larger wheels.
Ending up sporting a 3.2 with 260bhp from it's custom block/heads that stops and handles just like a Capri should have done if Ford cared enough.

I was just about to post my SC, but then checked to make sure it wasn't going to be a repost... D'OH! Don't know why someone's cut bonnet vents into this one though. Probably American judging by the chromed wheels.
Instead, have the Bristol 410, of which there are reckoned to be around 80, though you could pick any Bristol as there's not more than a few hundred of even the most numerous ones.
How about a 402 as well, about 9 built:
I think that Lotus GT1 Elise the only one registered belongs to a Dutch guy?? was that Jan Lammers?
A nice Fiat??? well this one is...only 114 made from 1952<>1954, a fiat with a V8

Droop Snoot Firenza - 204 built
Sportshatch - 196 built and never officially advertised. I remember when I lived near Ellesmere Port, there was a compound full of these cars which i used to drool over as a lad.
Chevette HSR - under 40 built.

Relatively common, but don't forget the HS Chevette - around 400 built, though rumour has it that the number should be more like 300.
The Sportshatch was built to use up the nosecones and alloy wheels from the HP Firenza project, and is otherwise standard 2300 Magnum mechanically, albeit with a unique tartan interior. They were intended to attract attention to the Vauxhall dealer showrooms of the day. The car was actually a special option code - 6261 - which in the parts book lists all the components that were different on the Sportshatch from the standard Magnum estate. A genuibe Sportshatch will have this option code on the chassis plate on the inner wing, though they're not worth enough money for anyone to fake. Current estimate is that there are fewer than 75 of the model still in existence, and that ranges from "rusty bodyshell with enough parts to make it run again perhaps" to "good condition".
It's amazing really that special editions like this were done by a major manufacturer in such small numbers - I mean, today a special edition Vauxhall would be maybe 5000 cars, and if they had 200 sets of alloy wheels left over they'd just weigh them in.

Lotus Elan 26R

On a Dutch lotusclub holland site there are some interior pics of that street GT1...its RHD
there is a GT1 in Holland though I believe...think some ferrari man have one? he is also a racing driver don't know his name anymore?
GTRene
found it...that lotus elise gt1 is now called Bitter GT1 look at this and it belongs to Tony Hezemans the racing driver...
they rebuild the car because the standard was not so reliable? now its fitted with a V10 read here;
A new body was designed around the original Elise racing chassis. The new car was fitted with the V10 engine of the Dodge/Chrysler Viper, placed before the rear wheels. It was then called the Bitter-Chrysler GT1 and in 1998 it took part in a few races unsuccessfully. Funds ran out and Toine had to stop the project.
Besides lack of budget the car's rather low power to weight ratio was a weak spot. This was caused by the heavy V10 engine, which was originally designed for a light truck before the Chrysler company put it in the Cobra wannabe Viper.
Still it's a beautiful looking car with a mighty engine. The design itself should be converted to a roadgoing supercar, I think it's pretty and powerful enough to sell...
Jan Lammers raced the car round the Zandvoort circuit for a few laps to the delight of the crowds, finishing with a tire burnout on the main straight.

Fiat Dinos used versions of the Ferrari Dino engine, hence the name. Gorgeous cars:
The earlier 2000 doesn't qualify because they made 3670
...although any excuse to post such pictures.
The Mk II Spider 2400 does qualify however, with only 420 made:
The Moretti GS 1.6 qualifies. It was an unashamed rip-off of the Fiat Dino but smaller and based on the humbler Fiats. A bit like the Opel GT aping the C3 Corvette in many ways.
You have to laugh as the original Dino 2.0 was a race-bred aluminium unit producing an amazing 160hp! The 2.4 made 180hp but weighed more. The coupes ran to just under 2400 but what the hell...
This doesn't qualify with 5000 units but was a personal lust icon for me in the 70's - a bit like an Italian SM in concept.

Having picked through quite a bit of this thread I notice DeTomaso have got a healthy mention and I suggest bearing in mind that the factories production claims were to put it mildly, exotic!
For example there are meant to be about 244 Deauvilles although both the Vatican and indeed Mrs DeTomaso may have accounted for one or two missing cars, common wisdom suggests it’s far more likely to be half that amount.
What’s equally certain is that there are precious few of any of them left with possibly only four or five Deauvilles left operational in the UK, a similar number of Longchamp, Mangusta and Valleunga’s.
Of course these sorts of numbers make them also plentiful compared to a Monterverdi, just try finding one of these objects or unbridled desire to put in your collection!
Continuing the theme of ‘If I had to explain you wouldn’t understand’ type cars I’ve only ever seen one of these and that was at last years FOS , what a purchase she would have been
Just a minor point of order, the Aston Bulldog was indeed a show car but it was also road legal and one of the two is as I understand it in a collection not far from here!
I guess you like big cars Robert good write up though...
Sometimes you could buy a car but you didn't...then a year orso afterwards you deeply regrad it you did not buy that "bargain" car, I've had that a few times, also because I had no place to store them or not anough cash money

BMW M3 GTR only one road car built
This has a custom built 350bhp flat plane crank 4.0l V8 engine for the road car and the race car had 500bhp and could lap the nordshcleife in 6.55 despite the naturally aspirated engine having to breathe through 2x 35mm air restrictors , not bad for an old saloon car!
Sadly the race cars are now retired but there are lots of videos on google and youtube etc.
