I think the GTO should be placed higher in the list, but considering the fact that it isn't built yet, it's damn nice to be in fifth place!

Congratulations from me too!

ps: I rate the design of the GTO higher than Pininfarina's FX, and Fiskers car looks like a BMW 850i with a bodykit...

My word, can't wait to see a finished version of this. Stupendous work, and worthy of the GTO badge.

The GTO was the reason I went to the Goodwood revival initially, the sight, sound and smell of it drifting through the corners was really something to behold!

Wheels are optional.
Each GTO can have special one-off design wheels.

I personally think that this is rather disingenuous.

Heres a car designer that models extreeme looking bodies on high desirable chassis.

When you actually look at these models, what actually distinguishes him from the whole raft of kit car body designers that have gone before.

All the ranting about approaching a car body from the point of function and form is the same stuff spouted by every designer or car manufacturer since the dawn of time. Theres nothing new in what he says.

So why does he have such a great following for a 28 year old designer.

Could it be perhaps that he is selling the seller. Gucci watches etc, exclusivity dished up because he has chosen to produce his shells on what were already the worlds most desirable sportscars. That puts him out in a league of his own, for how many 28 year old designers could afford to ravage a 100K sportscar to display their design.

I would make a bet with you that if he ditched his exclusivity. Turned up at the stoneleigh kit car show with a bunch of those bodys with normal ladder frame chassis and chevy engines underneath you'd all think of them as a quaint change from seeing fieros, or cobras, but apart from that you wouldn't give them much of a second look.

In my personal, and obvious minority opinion, he's the Damien Hurst of the car world. A talented designer of car bodies, but probably more talented at the selling himself side of the business.

I'd suggest his following is the result of producing several jaw dropping designs. Designs that, in my opionion, are much nicer than anything Ferrari themselves produce at the moment.

It's probably a good job he's talented at selling himself and his business. This is why his designs are on their way to being built, rather than remaining electronic dreams.

Certainly would have to agree with the second paragraph, if not the first.

Julian, as said before: a great part of the automotive world was impressed with Michiel's first sketches. On that basis he decided to move on.
The fact that he didn't settle for a ladderframe or a Pontiac Fiero actually is a very brave decision. Going all the way and choosing the best of the best requires guts.
So instead of questioning him or his work, I think you should admire the fact that he succeeded in actually producing his dream.

Michiel, could you make the 3/4 view from behind in 1680 x 1050 pixels?
My monitor is just too big...

The iMac is a fantastic piece of design and function! Yes, I very much enjoy it! smile
First I tried to get my employer to buy me the 24" version. But actually, 20" does the job nicely...
Thanks for the wallpaper!

If I may be critical, I preferred the earlier version actually (not the 250GTO, the one on the first page of this thread). To my mind, the rear haunches are now too 'butch' and the rear 3/4 view shows too much metal. Lamborghinis are butch; Ferraris are elegant.

Maybe I'm just being picky though?

I found a very nice 4 page article from march 2007 about the revival of Special Coachbuilding starting with the P4/5 from James Glickenhaus, followed by the 575 GTZ and the Fisker cars.
Sadly they forgot to mention the 612 by Giugiaro...

And now the same website writes: http://www.goldarths.com/Current_Affairs/VandenbrinkDesignToBuildFerrariGTOIn2008.aspx
