Yup explained that one to my local Plod....he was really understanding and let me go with a cheery wave....
on that note...mate with a gun license was asked by Police if he would do the call-out to large animals which had to be put down after being hit by vehicles.......ubfortunately it meant pretty much being on-call 24/7 and basically NEVER being able to drink alcohol again.......he said no...

Many years ago when I had a bodyshop an xr2 was brought to me by the AA from a soldier in Catterick he told me he didnt want too go through his insurance and would pay for the damage himself anyway the car was in a right mess it needed some serious pulldozer work etc anyway the bill ended up at about £2,000 and I said too him what happened and he said he swerved too miss a rabbit so I said I bet you wish you ran the little bastard over now dont you he just frowned and nodded lol.
Longest. Sentence. Ever.
Followed by the three shortest sentences - oh the irony!
Living on a shooting estate pheasants are plentiful during the season. Best thing to do when you see one is slam on the brakes (if it is safe). Swerving is a baaad idea. Current kill count since moving here is in double figures now with a few broken numberplates and the odd grill all casualties. Very annoying. They also shoot deer on the estate so I have been lucky to only hit one so far. They at least try to avoid cars whereas pheasant often seem to deliberately aim for cars...
I once impressed a few drunk friends by managing to react in time to miss a suicidal hare. It wasn't really that impressive but I guess in their state it looked like I was superman. Have taken out a rabbit or two and a BIG hare, that made the loudest bang on the wheelarch.
My sister once saw a duck of some sort standing in the middle of the road, and approached it very steadily at about 40, waiting for it to move. It didn't, and she just kept on going, wincing more as we drew closer. Eventually she hit it and it didn't sound good, btu I was baffled that she didn't stop or go around it - she had whole seconds to react and it was a clear road.
