I remember reading, ages ago, about some guy who wanted his F1 in a certain purple and some McLaren engineer (I think it was) hunted out the perfect Aubergine to demonstrate the colour.
I think this is just brilliant
Also, I was at my Mum's a couple of weekends ago and I found my 1:18 F1 that I forgot I had - my 3 year old son loved it. It was with my 1:18 XJ220 and 1:18 XK120
They made two purple cars, both for Brits. One is a comedic actor, the other was known to sing the occasional song.I think this is just brilliant

I'm not sure, but ISTR that he was at a RAB and the driver ahead started to set off, but then hit the brakes. Always a clever move.

Gratuitous Macca shots please!
I couldn't post one if you put a gun to my head. Don't really have that many, for that matter.Think my house, or at lease study would be adorned with pictures of an F1, especially the engine bay *shifts in seat*, make a grown man cry

I feel the XJ220 is a bit maligned, despite having some failings - but doesn't everything? Partially because it's a poster car from my childhood, I still love how they look; they are incredibly wide, mind you! A carbon bodied one with some modern tweakery must feel pretty special...
The guys at McLaren brought one in during the early stages of the F1 project (along with an NSX and F40).They were genuinely incredulous at how much of it turned out to be wasted space.
Obviously you've had a fair bit of work done to the oily bits of your car, yet this process has taken a long time and is a work in progress. When was the last time you drove a standard F1? Personally speaking I'd find the development hard at times without some kind of control example to reference - I don't know if I'd be able to do it on feel alone and keep some kind of objective target in mind. If you have driven a standard one recently, does it help to continue to give your car a context to work from?

The last time that I drove a standard car was either 2 or 3 years ago, I can't remember exactly. I could drive a standard one whenever I like, but it's not really necessary at this point. Just this afternoon I spent a half hour discussing how the car handles with a guy who's driven mine many times and who is one of the most capable and analytical drivers that I know. We're agreed on what the issues are.
For me, a couple traits of the original car are far enough from what I want that I feel no need to revisit them. The car as it is now is a much better benchmark, because it is closer to being right.

Flemke, I was wondering if you are familiar with Gordon Murray's Project T25? If so, what are your thoughts?
I hope it happens - it's almost certainly the only way I'll ever get into a car designed by GM.
I don't know much more than what you do. It would be rude of me to pry into it.I hope it happens - it's almost certainly the only way I'll ever get into a car designed by GM.
In that GM's original idea is now a decade old, and all the big carmakers are focusing on wee city cars, at times I fear that it's likely that GM's ideas will be either usurped or innocently repeated by outfits with massively greater physical and financial resources than what he has.
On the other hand, he is a seriously smart dude, so I think it'll be fine. I also think that you'll find that the car has a sociological dimension which is probably not being pursued by the competitors.

And what about this for a colour choice?
I absolutely love that colour. It reminds me of BMW's 'Atlantis Blue'. I've been hunting for an Atlantis Blue E36 M3 Evo for what seems like ages, but to no avail. The only one I found had an SMG gearbox, which I'm not keen on. To bring the conversation back on topic, I do believe the E36 M3 Evo has, (very broadly speaking), one half of the McLaren F1's V12 under its bonnet!hurstg01 said:
Here's a nIce blue already on an F1, this time in the US. What do you think Flemke?
I know the colour. To my eye, it's too "GT", too "country club" for what lies underneath. On a proper GT, be that an Aston or a front-engine Ferrari, or maybe, maybe a Murcielago, it could work. The thing is, they are refined cars.
The F1 is not refined. It is closer to brutal than to refined, and I think the colour needs to be true to that character.

They made the F1's engine from scratch, but of course when they designed it they hadn't forgotten everything that they had learned and developed with their other engines. I obviously know little about pretty much everything, but ISTM that in this world there are three major builders of great road car engines - Honda, Ferrari and BMW.
