Excellent news, Flemke! What a sight to open the garage doors and see a P1 and an F1 sat side by side...

Are there any snippets of the commissioning process you are happy to share?

For Flemke to tell - not me

I think the questions were whether I had driven one and whether I was getting one.

I have driven one and have ordered one, to be delivered supposedly in Aug/Sept.

It is an amazing machine - the transformation from quiet, civilised tourer to warp-speed racer and back again is almost the stuff of science fiction - but the F1 is unique.

Squiggle too? smile Good to see you back on here wavey

This car is #028, built 5 cars before Flemke's and is now sold via DK Engineering here in the UK
Looks like DK also have something to do with the "Tag" car you posted previously:

Would be very interested in what you thought of the driving experience of the P1 being as electronically heavy as it is.

P.S great to see you back...

Will Flemke be excused posing some custard on the dashboard of the aforementioned P1?

Surely it should be a bottle of Dom Perignon or something similar.

This should do it.

Does this mean we can look forward to a 'Flemke - is this your McLaren P1?' thread?
That would be up to others to decide. There is already a lot more information (of the accurate type) in the public domain about the P1 as there is about the F1, and P1s will be roughly 4x as numerous; the need for such a thread may well not be there.

This needs another Chris Harris video: F1 and P1 compared.

Awesome.

Was the colour choice as difficult as the F1?
The primary visual constraint on the P1 is the downward sloping line along the door:

which, although it presumably has an essential aerodynamic function, is rather ugly. This means that it must be concealed in a dark colour.

If that whole leaf-shaped area is going to be dark, it makes sense to have the whole car dark. No point in having just the leaf shape dark, with the rest in contrast. That looks stupid.

If the car was going to be dark, it seemed logical to pick the best dark colour that I know of for a car:

diagonal stripe included.

I don't mind sharing, but I cannot think of anything that stood out. I would be glad to answer questions, should there be any.

I would like to include the squiggle, but as yet I have been unable to figure out how that sort of thing might fit (as in, "look right") on the bonnet.

Put it this way: I believe in pinstriping, the world needs pinstriping, but even pinstriping has its limitations.

Flemke....just the man. I contacted Luke a week or two back to see if he knew what happened with the Rocket key fob you were working on many moons ago. He wasn't sure but I'd very much like to place an order if it made it to production.
Cheers!

The P1 is what, in my naivete 13 years ago, I expected the F1 to be: blisteringly fast, but within the capacity of a normal human being to operate. It turned out that the F1 is not within that capacity, although in time I have appreciated it the more because of that intrinsic characteristic.

By "electronically heavy", I presume that you are not referring to literal weight of the batteries, but rather to electro-technological systems.

The main things of that sort are the electric motor filling in the power gaps, which is I would say 90-95% successful (relative to the most advanced NA engine, say in the Laff-errari), the air brake, which by now is old technology but in this case is extremely effective, and the suspension, a refinement of the 12C's, about which system much has been written and which is a marvel.

Apologies for my long absence from here. It's a very complicated story but, in essence, about 3 years ago I slowly but surely began to learn that there was some clown who was trying to steal my life. I don't mean steal my identity, I mean steal my life - almost everything of value in it. A High Court Justice said that, in his 40 years as a barrister and judge, this was the most extraordinary situation he had seen.

It has taken a huge effort on my part to sort this out. It is mostly but not entirely done now, and the pseudo-human behind it, a cockroach originally from South Africa who in recent years has resided in and around Bournemouth, is now penniless. Nonetheless, one has better things to do with one's life than to have to deal with these creatures, who are not fit to live in proximity to human beings.

The above has however precipitated other, fundamental changes in my life, one result being that even now that the smoke has cleared I shall not have much time to indulge in fun diversions such as the PH Forum. When I am able, however, I shall do my best to participate.

Cheers.

The design was finished, and looked excellent, if I do say so myself. I was waiting on a place in London to ascertain whether they could get a certain type of turquoise leather to match the colour in the badge, they were taking forever, and then the events to which I alluded above interceded.

I would still like to finish it, but I am so backed up on stuff, and have so little time in which to do anything that is selfish, that it's unlikely to happen soon.

Sounds like it's been an ordeal Mr F. Glad you won out, hope life is treating you well.

Matching pair of Mclarens? Top choice. Will it be a rising diagonal stripe as per F1 (running along the lower edge of the upper door panel?) or on the exposed carbon along that vane?

I have often thought about that, and Joe911 telling me that I have something like a moral obligation to get it, but it seems a bit too...naff, Kings Road-ish...for me.
