I noticed on 1 forum a PH'er quoted that he was doing 130mph on a particular road and specified the day.

Is this risky and could the BIB use this against us?

Not at all sure it would stand up in court, but isnt the wisest of ideas, thus the extensive use of leptons as a stand-in for kph. It was kph, shurely?

Doubt it unless they have specific location and some pictorial evidence. However its not to say they wouldn't.

I imagine they'd only go for video posting twonks.

It's not sensible to directly admit to stuff like this, indeed I only ever exceed the UK speed limit when safely on a german autobahn

What's to say he was telling the truth though, could just say to plod he was exagerating etc. don't see it working in court.

I've wondered that myself.

Boys being boys tend to boast and fib a little, I imagine particularly so on an internet forum, so I can't see it standing up as evidence.

Lets try...
Yesterday I managed to get my Yaris over 150mph on the A2.

The Police have used comments made on an intenret forum against me in a case. It's not evidence of an actual offence, but evidence used to add to a case. Sadly, a Jury (or the Police for that matter) cannot easily pick up on sarcasm, bravado or joking from some plain text on a forum.

Be very careful with comments related to driving which may be used against you, even if you know they'd be out of context.

So when I've said in the past "burn them all", I'm leaving myself open as nº1 suspect in any spontaneous combustion cases of people I might know (or slightly charred pikeys).

Bugger!

I can't go into details as the case is still running. I lost control of my car on a road I know well and sadly a biker coming from the other direction had no chance to avoid me and was severely injured. My fault entirely, I've pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and am going to be sentenced on the 20th April.

There were some other cars on a drive with me that day who had the name of an internet forum I use on their windows. Within a couple of hours of the accident the Police had downloaded the entire forum and began printing off all of my comments, some of which jokingly referred to said road, some of which described how much fun it was to rag the a*se off loan cars, some barbed comments aimed at those idiots who go on about racing other cars on the street and so on.

When you make a comment like "I know the roads like my own racetrack rolleyes ", I meant it as having a go at certain people on the forum who'd been bragging about having this car off the lights, or having some race down a dual carraigeway and so on. To the Police or a jury, it paints a pretty dire picture of your attitude to the road, and it's very very difficult to show people what context the phrases are meant.

As I said, many things are said in jest on forums, just be careful that a throwaway remark doesn't come back to haunt you!

yes

Vauxhall Corsa, 225mph yesterday on the A2 (I think I passed you at some point).

I think my car must be faster than yours since I put that "turbo" sticker on the back.

Sadly the biker has lost the use of his arm due to nerve damage that's likely to be permanent. This happened on 30/04/06 and is still on going. The worst thing is the empty feeling of not being able to pay back the damage you've caused, whatever my legal punishments ends up being.

I didn't purposely drive any different to how I've driven that road hundreds of times before, I didn't feel I was a risk to anyone by how I was driving. I found out in the worst possible way I was wrong.

There are probably lots of people on these forums who like to go out and have a drive, perhaps pretty quickly. Perhaps sometimes they push their cars or bikes towards the edges of their grip. Just keep it in the back of your minds that one moment on a road can cost literally everything, and the words you have printed here on the internet can easily be used against you.

....

Blimey, that sounds like a load of sleepless nights.

I can see why the CPS would use such forum banter as adding to their case, although I think pleading guilty and having the attitude of "my fault entirely" will be seen as a positive step.

How is the biker?
