RE: ROCKET RELAUNCHES!

If you want to make a packet (rocket) aim at those with more money (than sense).
It may be bespoke, meticulous in places...
so it bl..dy should be for 50 grand!
Yet this is the driving experience?!!
'...at higher speeds, the Rocket is unnerving. ...
the thing is so light, so flighty, that you never fully trust the front end...
The light steering, kick-back over mid-bend bumps and occasional sniffing around changing cambers and grooved surfaces keeps you on tenterhooks...
That and the crosswinds, which can catch it out,
plus the fact that the steering, at 2.4 turns lock to lock, isn’t really as direct as it could – and should - be...
ENOUGH!

It would be more than enough if it were accurate.
No one who has ever driven a Caterham more than, say, a hundred yards would ever complain about the Rocket's steering kick, which is minimal.

At the risk of hijacking and monopolising the thread, a small and largely irrelevant thought occurred to me. I may have dreamed it, but does the Rocket not have a little lever somewhere in the cabin to raise the lights? I seem to recall something down in the left hand footwell that allowed me to raise them but not retract them; or vice versa. Have I got this wrong?
ETA - Having re-read and re-watched all the links and articles supplied, I would love one. Maybe a demo will come up at some stage or something.

There is no lever. You just grasp the lamp with your hand and rotate it into position.
Why add weight with a remote mechanism?

ETA - somewhat pathetically, given that you seem to have all the nice cars ever made flemke, could I ask what colour scheme you went for? Any chance you might email me a picture or post one here?
I've got no pictures, but it was in the background of the workshop photos in both the evo and Autocar articles. Porsche Carrera White with red wheels to match space frame.
You poor sod, flemke. I sense a 'Flemke - is this your Rocket?' thread on the horizon. I must have imagined the lever - it's been a while. Are the LCC guys still where they were? Or have they moved somewhere else now?
ETA - White with red. That is spookily, exactly what I would have chosen. Seriously. Very nice combo. I was onto nervous earlier this evening having read through all of this LCC Rocket stuff bawling that I wanted a Caterham in white, with red-centred alloys, to look like an old F1 honda. If you ever get your hands on a picture, I'd make it my screensaver.

I think one thread is enough.
There are two levers in the car (apart from handbrake). One is normal gearshift, the other is overdrive.
LCC is now located in Essex.
For a while the operation was in Oxfordshire.

I direct you to my edit above regarding your colour. Whereabouts in Essex? I haven't checked to see if they have updated their website, but I would like to call into these guys to have a rethink.
It's outside Chigwell. It's not the sort of place to which one just pitches up; you would want to arrange in advance.
As HiRich noted above, the LCC enthusiasts website is here:

Yep. Just spent the last while going though that site - tons of useful info. Found the old Duncan Hamilton advert in there that drove me crazy at the time, as I'd just bought a Caterham having been turned down on the LCC demo, and suddenly Hamilton had what I wanted at what I'd wanted to pay. Fully OK about the prior arrangement - that's how it worked last time, and I think Chris Howell had to come in especially so that there was someone there. How would I organise this do you think? Noted the mods you've commissioned to your fuel tank, btw flemke. Presumable you've done this for CoG reasons - was it a pricey mod?

Wasn't expensive, although I'd rather not say how much because that would be Chris's business.
Let's just say that his getting Premier to make a one-off fuel cell was a damn sight less dear than what McLaren charge for a "standard" F1 fuel cell made by the same people.
If you wanted to see the white/red combo, earlier on that site there were some images of it, although just now the "Gallery" section does not seem to be working.*
Why don't you try the "Contact" facility on the site? If you left your contact details, I'm sure that you would hear back.
*ETA, the images are in the "Latest News" area, under "Sunday, 04 February, '07 - new pics of #039/001R".

Cheers for that, flemke. I'll drop them a line. As for the fuel tank costs, no worries. If you're talking about it in context with F1 part prices, then I'll just assume it cost enough to cause me to reach for my throat, fall to my knees, make choking noises and 'die' theatrically in front of Chris whilst pawing the air and grabbing his trouser leg.

You'll find the pictures of R039/R001 in the Chassis section, where we gather pics and info about the various chassis build.
Pictures of your car can be found here, Flemke:

looking at those shots on the above link... the wheels are much better looking without the 'hub cap' bit. you'd save even more weight taking four of those off too!

It's still barenaked. On three wheels at the moment, without an exhaust. But the good news is the body is now painted and very very orange. Just took a look at the bodywork at the paintshop. It needs one finishing layer. Will take a picture of it later and upload it here.
