I found it vaguely amusing when told, by an American friend, that a Jetta was a "rabbit with a trunk"... I just like the image that brings up somehow.

An Italian region of Switzerland once had an automotive firm that made commercials, buses and trains.

They were called Ferrovie Autolinee Regionali Ticinese.

As with all Italian firms, they shortened it to an acronym.

Luckily the Ford Ka Si never made it to production.
There is a Sportka SE

http://www.ford.co.uk/ie/ka/Ka_models/ka_model_spo...
"Be prepared for the ride of your life. Sportka SE has got a powerful 95 PS 1.6i engine that fires you from 0 to 62 in a breathtaking 9.7 seconds. It has leather trimmed seats and its wide 16” alloy wheels grip the road like claws…"

The boys in marketing sure can come up with some sh*te when the have to...
Its a cracking car though. Lose the rubbish about 9.7 0-62 and the rest is fairly accurate, it has very good grip and can hold a lot of that speed.

The Golf Match and Golf Caddy, and now the Polo Match too

Does anyone know if there were any more?
There were a few other Golf names that were sport related - Ryder , Champion, and tour
following the rolling stones there was also the Pink Floyd and bon Jovi and the polo Genesis

Am i alone in thinking those bizarre jap names are really cool?

I love the way they dont give a stuff what it means, but it sounds good to them.

Bongo Friendly a bit hard to pronounce (Flendly? Frendry?)...who cares? just butcher it to Friendee and job done. top stuff hehe

Mysterious Utility is genius too.

Nearly bought one of them. It's fractionally less amusing when you write it properly i.e. Bighorn, but I was still relieved when I found and bought the Honda-badged version with the dull-but-safe Horizon moniker.

Not a 'car name' but some associated marketing blurb.
I had this bizarre Engrish statement emblazoned on the mats in my MR2 Turbo.
