I've been advertising my car on Pistonheads for a few weeks now ( http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/176163.htm ) and I've just seen that some bugger has pinched my pics and description, modified it (ever so) slightly and listed it on eBay ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2003-VOLKSWAGEN-TOUAREG-V8-S... ). Obviously on the one hand the guys got good taste for browsing pistonheads and picking out my advert, but on the other hand this guys being fraudulent and potentially damaging my reputation! I tried 'reporting the item' in eBay but after a couple of forms it just directs to the (unhelpful) help pages. Any ideas what I can do and, more curiously, any ideas how this guys even expects to make the con work (I mean, who in their right mind would pay blind upfront to a seller they've never met for a car they've never seen, or does it not work like that?).

Maybe the Ebay seller is doing the scam where he is hoping his listing will fetch more than £22,500 for the Touareg. He then buys the car from you and sells it on to his Ebay buyer for a profit.

If they are linking to your photos rather than having nicked them, and put them into the advert, you could always change the image that link shows. Perhaps a little Goatse?

I would just email all the bidders explaining the situation.

Either that or ask the seller lots of awkwards questions not explained by the photos and he would be unable to answer without having a car to check evil

PS - make the links accessible by putting a space between the links and the brackets at each end smile )

Report it to ebay

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/vero-image-t...

Breach of copyright. Should get removed.

NiceCupOfTea - aha, thanks! Randlemarcus - sadly he's using eBay's image hosting so I can't follow your advise (although I like your thinking!). What's a goatse???

Why not ask if you could veiw it, or get someone to ask for you and see what he says.

Let Ebay know, it is definately another Nigerian scammer hoping to receive a deposit off some naive ebayer for car he doesn't even own! Can't believe people are still bothering to try this on.
