I'm afraid I'm going to chip in with my two-penneth worth - Having read a lot of these stories on PH, I'm wary about who I deal with. My Audi has attractied some interest but the one I gave short shrift to was someone (asian or muslim) who could barely speak English who asked me questions about the car that are already on the advert - I didn't mind that, but when he asked me where I was and what colour it was, I sighed.

He then offered me a LOT less than it was advertised for, having asked me "best price" several times then telling me that the car was worth less than he was offering me (maybe so, but I don't appreciate being dictated to like this by anyone).

I decided to not deal with him as he claimed it was too far for him to collect and whether I'd like to deliver it (um, no) - especially as I remembered a story I'd read on here (can't remember who posted it) about someone selling a Transit van and the buyer turning up with less money than he'd offered in the first place...

Tonker I'm not trying to dupe or goad you into a racist response.

Thanks for explaining your reasoning, and no I'm not somebody who goes around trying to sue people for supposed discrimination. However by the reasoning applied, if out of 2 identical cv's, one is favoured over the other then it would suggest some discrimination. In any case, not something I've got the time or inclination to do.

I've dealt with asians a lot, and in fairness they can be a pain, but you get that with anybody. We've had plenty of tradesmen work on my parents house, they've all been paid the agreed amount and have all been happy to work for us.

Anyway, as I said, I wasn't trying to trick you or anything, it was a serious question which has largely been answered.

Just on this... I work in IT, and have had a hard time in the past trying to get a job. My friend came over from Australia, and he reported the same this in the last few weeks.

Apparently, its got nothing to do with ethnicity. Rather, when a job ad is posted on a site like www.Jobserve.co.uk, the responses that recruiters have to deal with can sometimes be a couple of hundred CV's for a job. So what they do is simply to take the first 20 or 30, and then maybe a few more people who actually follow up with a phone call.

It can sometimes be a question of timing then.

And no, I dont work in recruitment, and no I'm not Asian (I'm an Australian \ Italian), I'm just someone who has had experience of not having my CV put forward, and I find this discussion of CV's to be a completely bullst discussion.

I hate it when the race card is played. People should stand on their own merits. Yes, I'm aware that the real world isnt like that. And yes, it pisses me off that that is the case.

And post the story. We wait with bated breath.

I've had 3 calls now for the Audi from Asian blokes, one called "Micheal".

Micheal offered me a decent price for the Audi and said he'd come up from London to see it today at 1pm. 200 plus miles for a £1150 car? C'mon.....

I called him at 10 and he didn't have a lift yet, but he promised he'd be here by 1. It's 3:17 and no sign and no phone call or anything - I called him twice to speak to him and he's "out", so I've said that someone else is looking at the car this afternoon* and that if I don't hear from him, I'll sell it to them. I've not heard - no real shocker.

* True story - this polish guy's coming this evening

Hi, I owned VXR220 Number 16 registration GK54 ZZL (I changed the registration to J9 VXR)and had a rather catastrophic roll on the A26 Tonbridge bypass. The car was assessed by my insurance company and they valued the repairs at around 25K, the car was worth 25.5K at the time and so they wrote the car off. As far as I was concerned this was a catagory D write off. I bought a replacement VXR220 and put the J9 VXR plate on it, I still have the car now.

I have read the full story and can only laugh at the statements that are being made by the seller concerning its history. It was in a very bad way when I last saw it as it hit a kerb side on very hard (hence the missing rear wheel which was shattered) and then proceeded to hit a tree after that. Significant damamge was also done when the recovery company put it back on its wheels. I must say though that I got out without a scratch, a very strong car! So if anyone sees this car for sale at any time avoid it at all costs, which I'm sure you all will after reading the 1000's of posts on this subject.

One thing I didn't see was the latest registration number on the car, I'd be interested to know if it retained the original one from when I bought it, anyone have any photos of the original post as they have now been removed.

Holy thread ressurection batman etc etc...
Saw this only today after http://www.pistonheads.com/news/default.asp?storyI...
and reading the comments about "hope it's not number 16".
Anyway, read 20 pages, skipped to end, read back a couple, saw this link
http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/109906-bargai...
and this one
http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/74445-suspici...
going by the mobile number in the second one the outcome is he's still trading on ebay!
links to this account http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2008-380BHP-FORD-FOCUS-R...

also has an interesting history on the nissan gtr forum...
(thought this more appropriate in here than digging up the #16 debate again on the original spotters post)

Correct me if I'm missing something, but...

If no16 was an insurance write off, how come it didn't show up as such on the HPI check?
