Sorry folks another what car thread, I would appreciate your ideas though.

Criteria is:
under £10k
Manual gearbox
250+ BHP or a power to weight ratio which would give similar performance, car can be mildly tuned to reach this figure.
No rag tops, sorry MX-5 fans.
Something that isn't available as a mainstream model e.g. Focus RS, M3 - although I will make exceptions for rarer stuff e.g Lotus Carlton.
Decent sized boot, or rear seat space to put stuff on e.g. 2 persons luggage

Looking for something that will depreciate slowly and a bit different, hence the modern classic tag.

Any ideas?

Hmm. Maybe not rare or powerful enough enough for you, but what about a Minty McMint Corrado VR6 storm?

190bhp stock IIRC. Lots of tuning stuff about.

Or a really really tidy 944 Turbo?

A second for a Porker, but I'd suggest a 968, you should be able to pick up a decent example for that budget....

Do'h. When I typed 944, I was thinking what were those late 944's called, with round lights and bigger engines...

Corrado VR6 storm - good
Or a really really tidy 944 Turbo/968 - even better
TVR Griffith - don't want a convertible (but strangely tempted)
RX-7 - maybe
XJS - I would love an XJS, hard to find in manual maybe. Sorry to be fussy but me and girlfriend have both got auto daily drivers and I am sick of em. Same goes for the 8 series Beemer.
Merc 190 - definitely. Bloke is having a laugh at that price though.
ZMCoupe - very good
Lancia Delta HF integrale - this car fits the bill perfectly, unfortunately I have already had 2 so want something different.
928S4 - auto, GT model would be on the list.
Impreza RB5, M3 - sorry, not wanting a hot version of a mainstream model.

Thanks for your excellent suggestions so far!

I know its a ragtop, but Elise? S1's aren't losing money at the mo, and S2's are slowing down.

Or, stretch a bit and get an exige?

That's early Cerb money, too....

For that money, I'd say: VX220/Elise with a hardtop.
Kit car (GTM Libra?)

You dont really say what kind of age car you want.

This may be just under 200bhp though.

BMW E24 M635CSi (aka M6)

Can be had around or under £10K
Only available in manual
286bhp (up to 340bhp if you felt like upgrading the engine to later M5 3.8L spec)
2+2 and a huge boot.
Appreciating rather than depreciating and already considered a highly desireable classic.

Alternatively there is the M5 version, much rarer (187 RHD built vs 524 RHD M635CSi) although prices are more or less the same.

Much the same position as Im in.

Budget of around 10k for something thats a good, fun second car. The equally important criteria is that I dont want to lose a fortune on it as Im dipping into my house deposit for it!

Current short list for me is
968 CS
E30 M3
E34 M5
Clio Trophy (but not too sure on the future values of these)

Ill keep a keen eye on this thread! smile
