God this country is shit.

We're called Great Britain, but we're not Great in anyway at all. We produce all now. More people leave here every year than arrive (generally wealthly educated people leave and the dross, skint, refugees and petty criminals arrive). We have no car companies to speak of (were we not the one of the world leaders some time ago?) We suck at sport. More and more policed. CCTV everywhere. Taxed off the roads. Taxed to death too (for what?)

We're called United Kingdom. But we're not. The Jock's hate us and want nothing to do with us and have their own parliament. The Welsh will never forgive for the mines, no love lost there. The Irish have killed more of us in the last 30 years the Al Queada (sp) but we hate A Q more.

We are English, a bunch of ing losers. (run by a Jock) Did anyone vote for him,.....did they .

Rant over.....gone by the 2012 (that'll be the biggest most expensive up of all time) games to live in Aus.
Best.

In total agreement - this place is screwed. Once I'm sorted, I'm leaving so fast I'd outrun a McLaren F1. biglaugh

Is everyone forgeting that London is the financial capital of the world?!! We are the financial powerhouse of Europe and we generate more money than the whole of the global car industry!! celebrate this and stop whinging about a few cars!

We also have a world leading Pharmaceutical and Defence industry!

If the Indians have the capital to research new cars and the labour force to build them then so be it, seems as though no one on this thread has a clue about the realities of building cars!

So those pratts who think this country has nothing to offer can leave for all I care as it is obvious they have nothing to offer this country! Good Riddance to BAD rubbish!

I think we all remember the City Rover, so no thanks !!!!!!!
that was Rover's fault for buying an Indian car and not changing it sufficiently to suit the uk roads. hence american cars dont do so well here due to the ride being biased towards long-disance cruising. it all comes down to cost and quality.

it might be well that both jag and land rover are indian own, but if the vehicles are designed and made in the UK then whats the problem?

Ah, OK - I see your point. Defense is what is the most important thing in the world. Perhaps we wouldn't need it if the stupid government didn't piss everyone off.

My comments certainly weren't based around car manufacturing - they were just stating that the country is screwed due to the way it's being managed and I agreed with the post in question.

It's brilliant that you think you can judge that people have nothing to offer the country based on comments on a forum, though - that actually shows your level of intelligent input to the debate. Perhaps the people leaving do have lots to offer, but as stated in the afformentioned post, we're more than a little sick of being milked and badly treated by the crap government that we have.

So do you think it would be a good thing or a bad thing for Jag-LR to be owned by an Indian manufacturer?

My opinion is that it would be good IF the design, development and production remains in the UK.

Exactly, there can't be a probelm can there. I mean Jaguar has been foreign owned for 20 years and so I can't see any difference unless you were to concentrate on the ethnicity of the potential owners which would make you racist...... Oh.

I wish all the people who threaten with leaving this country would actually do what they say they will and off. The roads would be a lot clearer and some other poor bastards can put up with their whinging.

I think it is a good thing for Jag-LR to be owned by a company with the desire and resources to deliver quality vehicles that fit the niche. The fact that the potential bidders are Indian really doesn't really come into it.

British made is an important aspect to Jaguar in the same way a Maserati made in Italy is to that marque, but foreign ownership is irrelevant. Totally.

The British car industry was finished years ago, Jaguar is owned by Ford which is American, all I'm saying is stop saying this country is crap because of a long finished car industry and concentrate on what is good about this country, i. e. The world leading Banking and finance industry that is based here.

Hate to say it, but you've obviously(?) not lived in another country.

Try running a business in France, when all your workers want 3 hours off for lunch and get the hump every 10 minutes. The French build cars, but come on, most of them are crap and government subsidised.

Live in Croatia where a majority of the country is run by a hand full of ex-war crooks, and the rest of the population earn about 350-400E a month, but the price of cars/normal every day goods is the same.

Hate to say this but I think people in the UK are a bit shielded. They hear of one gun shooting, or one rape/mugging in their local area and they think the country is s**t. Try walking down the street in areas of South Africa as a chav, shouting your mouth off, see how long you live for.

You take for granted that you can (99% of the time/99% of the country, let's face it) walk around and enjoy freedom to a certain extent, or a damn sight more than in other areas of the world.

We're also great for business, enjoy every luxury resource in the world and have all the comforts you could ask for. How often is the power out, water stopped, or shops out of food? ...

Anyway let's not be pessimistic and get back on topic, the French have a beautiful country, great food, etc, same as Croatia (fantastic country!) and I'm sure if the Indians just give financial backing, Jag and Land Rover will continue? (Maybe I'm being a bit TOO optimistic?)

Why do people immediately assume that Jag Land Rover production would inevitably move to India in the event that the Mahindra or Tata bids are successful?

They would inevitably streamline manufacturing operations in the UK. So yes, there would definitely be manufacturing job losses here. However, their focus would be to make the current Jaguar and Land Rover business viable. Relocating the manufacture of low volume premium vehicles to a low labour cost market is not an essential part of that.

I do see Mahindra or Tata utilising the jag land Rover Engineering and manufacturing expertise to improve their current and future vehicles.

If the styling of the new Jag is anything to go by Ford are clearly keen to flog it to a country where ugly cars are popular.

I don't know how much people know of Tata but they are a huge conglomerate. JLR would not be the first UK business they will have bought. They bought Corus (nee British Steel) not so long ago. They also own Tetley Tea. By all accounts where the expected outcome of the Corus take over was blatant asset stripping and jobs exported to India, this has not actually happened. So Tata might not be the worst owner for JLR, even if the vehicles they make theselves are pretty agricultural. In fact, would Corus already be the supplier of steel to Jaguar and Landrover?
