Saab Black Turbo X

Saab celebrate 30 years of turbocharging by launching the Turbo X

The limited edition all-wheel drive Saab Black Turbo X has been unveiled today at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Powered by a 24 valve 2.8 litre V6, the car has been released to coincide with the 30th anniversary of Saab's original Turbo.

The twin-scroll turbocharged engine produces 295lb ft of torque and 280bhp, which drives the car from 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. An innovation in the all-wheel drive system means that the drive torque is split not only between the two axles but also between the two rear wheels.

External bodywork on the car has been designed to maximise aerodynamic efficiency, with a front and rear spoilers. Inside, the design is a replica of the original 900 Turbo, and the supplying dealer can add a personalised message to the dashboard. It's a limited edition, although no information has been released about the size of the production run. The order book is already open, and the first ones will be available in the UK from March 2008.

2000 cars, apparently.

ETA: More and better pics from the Frankfurt launch on Jalopnik, if anyone's curious.

To be pedantic nerd, actually this is a 9-3, and the other one is a 9-5. The 93 had a two stroke engine, and the 95 was an estate version of that (and the later 96).

Apart from the Saabaru (9-2X) and the Chevy Trollblazer aka 9-7X... Could say that this is the first one of their own, though...

I really like that, I had a 9-3 Aero (2.0t) with the stage 2 hirsch on it. 252bhp but it felt like way more. Fantastic car.

Anyone know if Hirsch are doing anything with this motor??
