Cheng and I are racing the Cobra at Spa 17/18 May as well as the Six Hour meeting.
The wife regretted she didn't hoon with us last sunday, Spa isn't that far for us and since the girls love flames and loud exhaustswink I might move my diary around a bit . . . Racing both days Phil?

Sweet.

I'll post a nice B&B adress - 50 euro / night - this eve. First I have to book myself in biggrin

Please add to the list guys, that'll make us all happy and it's more convienient to arrange convoys, meet-ups and all.

I'll be giving away almost 500bhp to Phil anyway, or I could put in a seat and you can tell me which way the corners go?

Wonder what a good time would be?

That's expensive, I've found one at €25 per night just outside Malmedy. The trouble is that I read some reviews after I booked and I do wonder if they provide beds. laugh

I forgot I lined up next to Andrew Riley's MGB V8 in the BSSC race:

I raced the MG last weekend at Silverstone - it was great fun! smile

How much faster was the MG round SPA than the 3000 (presume it was maybe tad less power but must be more torque and Phat Stickies vs L Sections (eek)?).

No, the 'B is quicker. I reckon the 'B could get under 3 minutes at Spa which is not possible with a Healey.

I could get close but never had *quite* enough to get past the 'B. Healey has more power but less torque, more weight and less grip.

Dink - Healey's are Fat old trucks, with Massive (Huge) Straight 6, very sideways handling even with 32 or 48's or christ knows what they are like with L sections.
Top TR6's murder them even with sticky tyres (if the Healey is on them too - they all left the Thoroughbreds after the fast TR's turned up, my 4 is alot faster than them too, but about the only 4 cylinder TR that would be).
The MGBV8 is s Properly Quick car (with moderate tuned V8).

Blimey Jon, give the old things a break!

Healeys: 1959-1967
TR6: 1968-1976

Henderson has done 3:02 at Spa in a TR6; Gracee has done a 3:03 in a Healey 3000; best TR4 time I can find is Howe's - 3:08

Andrew's 'B V8 has done 3:03 round Spa, in 2006. I reckon it could crack 3 minutes.

Sorry Phil.

No I do love Healey's, they are just like and older and heavier TR5/6. I am surprised Hendo has not gone below 3:00 in his car (he does run sprint gearing in it and no OD so might be sitting on the limiter on some of the straights at Spa - he has a Cossie diff in his (think a 4.3 as TR6 one tend to rip out unless really beefed up (which we did over the winter and salisburys are weaker - he (well the guy who had that car built John Church just tough stuff it put a cossie in and mount it to an extended rollcage - the cage in it is like a touring car). Presume those times are both on stickies? If not Grace was REALLY peddling well!

Spoke to Neil Howe on Sat - about the race last year! Something to do with a safety car and him getting in the pits and that working to his advantage.

Yep 4's are slower that big Healeys (2.2 litres vs 3.2 (they all have long cranks from what I hear;)). FIA 4 87mm might make 180bhp to a Healey's 260 - 270+ and not much torque vs loads. FIA weight of the TR4 is something stupid like 950kg. Not sure how much a Healey is but I'd guess about 1050, so alot better Power and torque to weight and I think the long straights vs corners at Spa would favour the Healey alot anyway. An FIA 4 will never get near and FIA Healey unless on a very tight track.

Pit the TR6 was not 65 or pre (mind then I might not have my Griff to build!).

My 4 is Much Much faster than an FIA 4 weighing about 125kg less with no roof, and a big bore engine and (on mine a nutty - only one out there trick offset valved head - 8k in development on this!). It is a Fraction off the pace of what Mike H's TR6 can do on most UK tracks (might run him close at Brands - beat him last time there but he has even more power now and is smashing all the lap records where ever we go). My 4 has over 220bhp so the power to weight and torque are much better than a Healey and it is alot more nimble.

I'd love to do SPA in the 4 but it will be for sale at the end of the year and would not want to potentially stress the engine with this kind of race - engine just had a full rebuild and is going back in the car v.soon.

Pity (if I do SPA, and I will be if car (6) get through the rest of the season before we have to enter) we could not both do the 1 hour in the 6 and the Healey (on 32/48's) as I think it would be VERY Close. Joes car has got more power than ours but is heavier, but we have overdrive and a 4.3;)

Not sure the 6 will quite have enough tankage to do it in one go (12 gall ATL), so to make it fair I am hoping the are going to say there is a mandatory driver change and time in the pits (to allow some fuel to be added to the cars that need a splash (other wise these cars are being penalised unfairly - if they are doing the same lap times and racing each other on the track but have a not quite enough tankage).

I can really woffle when I get onto TR's!!!!!!!!!!

God You should have seen the Neil Howe Monster spin at Silve on Sat (did you see it Phil?), BLOODY HELL.

He kep his foot in on the first corner coming off the start finsh straight when in the FIA Virgin Classic Rock - http://classicrock.virginradio.co.uk/thestation/li... (only way I get through the day!!!!!!) event, he was 3rd behind and MG and a 1800S Grantura. No way was he lifting (on L sections and those think really can slide - do that on Yoko's and you are in a world or hurt! You could see it going but foot hard in, (at 85-90mph) it slowly cam around but as he was going som fast the spin REALLY covered dome distance - MEGA - missed the tyres by 6 ft or so. But collected it up and having lost 15 odd seconds put in what must have been the drive of the weekend to get within 1 second of the 1800S at the flag passing alot of cars to do so (1/2 hour race).

What a STAR.
