IMO these cars were very impressive in their day.

Dad had a 2.0i as a co. car that I got to learn in. Later on he got a 3.0L which was even better.

Just superbly comfortable and quiet yet deceptively quick wink

HOWEVER, I can't help thinking you will get an Omega for shed money (I did a couple of years ago) which is of course an improvement over the Carlton in most respects.
I agree, can anyone find an ex-police MV6 manual? probably faster than this weeks shed and alot less chav.

It's auto (ugh!).
It's MOT is about to expire (or has) so it's already £1045.35 (if mot cost hasn't risen again!) plus bet you can add to that a packet with what tester will find wrong.
A ticket is worth a lot these days.

More faith in your shed Maestro.
Got a good following (although it's little known) even in standard and EFi format.

Don't believe me? Look what this Turbo has just made on ebay, even with rust on inner door/sill areas.

And look at the number of views - 2116!

Piss off troll. You will make no friends with that comment. Not a good way to start your PH history.
c'mon fella, take it a bit easy, it was just a light hearted comment from him.

as for this? nah, i wouldn't touch it,. particularly this one.

OT: I actually liked that pink Max Power escort and entered the competition to win it, though if i did, i would have got it resprayed white.

Great car -Had a black '88 manual GSi for a while in 1992 and they did go like a train (had 137 "5 up" once- you could hear the sound of sphincters tightening! -not public roads of course...) very impressive handling for their bulk-definitely a match for M5s of the day.
A chap I know who did rallying/time trials described it as "thinking mans's Cossie"

Yes they were 12v until later.
Unfortunately prone to Diff seal problems & mine kept switching cruise control off then back on & put me off C/control since.

Oh yeah it wasn't a bad car, I think I entered the competition to win it too, it was just the paint job that put me off (Porsche Karmin Rot IIRC). I would've resprayed it black, just for the record!

Absoloutely love 'em! Had a low mileage 24v a few years back and it amazed me everytime I drove it. Seriously fast with all the toys you could want. You don't get much more for your money!

I used to run a Senator 24v. Mine was auto with 96k on the clock. Absolutely excellent.. a real sleeper... stick in in sports mode on the auto box and sports mode on the electronic suspension and she really performed well.

Had it sideways a few times which was very rewarding (scary!). One of the best cars i've ever owned.

In one of my garages lurks an immaculate 80,000-mile Carlton GSi3000, a manual 12V model. It is a car I bought in 1988, and which still turns heads for the right reasons.

Manual cars are a chore to drive smoothly around town, but a good example makes a roomy and comfortable long-distance car, which is still quite chuckable on bends. Over 30mpg on a run too.

I've had auto Senators too; excellent and very capable cars, though I was forever chasing faults with the electrical toys on a 24V car. Cruise control once re-set itself to a much higher speed than I was travelling at the time, which was 'interesting'....

My mate had one of these years ago and believe me your better with a fast Ford. That was both of our opinions by the way. I had (and still do albeit a different one) a Sierra XR4x4 2.8 which could dance rings round the Carlton

I had one of these (same year) and it's always held a special memory for me. It had 150K on it when I sold it - I did 100K of that over 3 years. Mine was an auto too. Loved the sport button - a novelty at the time - it cruised up to speed very well and like other owners, I found it so easy to hang the tail out and keep it there on greasy roundabouts. And then there are the memories of late night high speed runs on the M4 between Swindon and Reading. Record 22 mins door to door and three big numbers on hte speedo after a late finish at the office at 1am. Those were the days (a good 15 years ago though)!
