My dad never really had any properly cool cars.

Closest he got would have been the Hillman Avenger GLS. The one with the twin-carb engine, quad lights and black vinyl roof. Was a 76-ish P plater, so had the hockey-stick rear lights.

Like this, but white:

After having a MkI Accord and a MkI Civic Shuttle, he bought a MkI Integra:

He also had one of the earliest Impreza estates in the UK, but it was only a 1.8GL, so not that cool really.

When he passed away last year, it had only covered 13k miles.

He did indeed.
I *knew* I recognised that car/photo, before I clicked on the link I just knew it would take me to McNab's profile smile

Dad had a Dolomite Sprint although it was before I came along - always wanted one myself. This superceded numerous nice cars including cool Minis, an E-type Jaguar, various Loti, one of those super rare TVR err, whatevers. Trident, that's it.

I have only realised in the past 10 year just how cool his Twin Plenum SD1 Vitesse was...

Also had a W-reg TR7 with a sort of full length sunroof. I was about 4 at the time and to me it was cool, not quite so now. Also had an original Y-reg MG Metro with the red belts and 13" pepperpots. I thought that was great. The A-series sounded particularly good in that incarnation although the car itself wasn't fast of course. Various TVRs etc since but not what I would call cool.

Dad's coolest car's..
not an easy one to choose, as he has had..

Lotus Elan S3 coupe,
S1.5 Jaguar E-Type Roadster,
Maserati Indy,
Jaguar XJS-C HE,
Rolls Royce 40/50 (1921)
Rolls Royce Wraith (1937)
Jaguar XK8 Roadster,
Jagaur XK120 roadster,
Jaguar XK150 coupe,
Mostly drives a Mini 1000!

However only one has he ever tried to by back that was a '1959/1966'Lotus Elite that recently came up at an auction in duxford. When he had it it was a pale metalic blue and was immacualte when he sold it in 1968 to buy a brand new Rover 2000tc. He sold it for £400! he accidentally found it in an auction catalogue this year, having been off the road scince 1970 and haveing had 3 owners after him, and been painted the most ghastly violet colour. It was in need of a lot of work and sold for £19,200, not to him I may add frown

Err..

He had a Capri when he was 17.
Then he had a load of boring cars.
Then he had an argument with his business partner and he gave him an XJS.
Then he got a few 5-series (E34 and E39)
Now he has a 2003 S-class, a 2005 Land Cruiser and a 2008 ML350 4MATIC (whatever 4MATIC means).

4Matic is a Mercedes switchable 4WD system, most of the time 100% of the drive is to the rear but when it detects slipping it can switch a variable amount of drive to the front wheels, much more popular in Europe than the UK nerd

My dad has had a few shockers, namely two Hyundai Stellars eek and a Sonata. He had a brief stint in the world of cool with a lovely Peugeot 405 Mi16, but then lost his way again by buying a Xsara. He currently has a Citroen C5 and is showing few signs of getting better at the moment...

Dad's cars have varied wildly from the normal, Scenic, to the awful, Meastro. Then it all went a bit weird a few years ago when he bought an Avantime, which he still has...
