I got to see the car at brand this year. I thought it was a electric car, it was so quiet, can anyone here explain why and how this Diesel car sounds so quiet.

Same reason as the Dag-dags at Le-Mans I would imagine...If they put regular exhausts on, they would be driving round the track spitting out enormous filthy clouds of black sooty smoke...
Now obviously this is not exactly the image they (manufacturer) are trying to get across, so they have mahooosive mufflers/silencers on to catch all the crap, thus muting the sound.

Sorry, £36,000 for this car is utter madness, BMW are REALLY taking the piss with this one!!
Christ you could get a low mileage CSL for £36K or even a nice 535d with sensible miles on the clock. The world has gone mad, BMW are simply taking people for a ride with this car and the pricing, and I have been an owner and driver of 10+ BMW's in the past.

My post was referencing the specification in the road test AS QUOTED, that car is too expensive at £36K. I am WELL aware of the starting point, I've owned 10+ BMW's, many of which I bought from new and I am not anti BMW, but at £30K the car is too expensive in my eyes and at £36K its madness, even if the base model starts at £21K.
Doesn't mean you wont sell shed loads however.

Yes the 135 is the best part of £30K (or £36 with some bits

Why do you compare the price of a new car with a secondhand car? Compare like with like, for goodness sake. If you want to compare it with a 535d (though God knows why you would, one is a small sports coupe, the other a quick diesel barge) then compare a new car with a new car. A 535d M Sport with leather and prof sat nav is >£46k
And as for BMW taking people for a ride - do they go out and put a gun to customers heads and force them to buy? If the product is good and priced right then it will sell. If it not it won't. Quite simple.

Price perception is interesting here, by dropping the diff and shortening 10 inches of steel, why would anyone expect this car to be much cheaper? All the other build costs are virtually the same. Oh yeah sorry, it is a small car and must be cheap nd nasty and big cars are great, and expensive. This is not a fiesta versus granada price mindset.
