To balance out my previous comments, I saw a 1-series today and it looked OK. I think it being in a dark colour helped and it still looked like it had a bit of a hanging belly but not so bad.

Spec. a 320d to the same level as a standard Passat 2.0TDi-170 SEL.... I did and nearly fell off the sofa.

Over £26k for a repmobile.... remember, most options are worth nothing come trade-in time.

Well before i get the company to sign a lease on a 320d coupe i am going to wait and see a 123d Coupe in the metal with more options as an alternative
Good review of the 123d in Autocar this week. However, still looking at 30k with moderate options.

It is quite a good review smile

The 0-60 is respectable, although the time to 100 is not great. Need to re read it to see what the in gear times are!

Not according to my car list, it isn't.
I can see my list, but can't see yours. So what's your point?
The point is that, in the UK, the BMW can cost a hell of a lot more to lease.

You've quoted a German cost breakdown, in which the price difference is significantly smaller than in the UK.

Anyway, we're both looking at specific examples - in my case, the BMW makes very little sense.
Of course, everyone's example is different. A BMW can cost a hell lot more to lease in Germany as well; but to give a comparable example, the same conditions were used for both cars in above table.

Seeing that the BMW's lower cost origins from the running costs, the difference would be even higher if the price level for Diesel fuel and tyres is higher; which it certainly is in the UK.

I'm curious now which factor makes the BMW more expensive for you, and what range of difference we're looking at.

They are quieter because they are doing barely half as many revs and are turbocharged. No stupid exhausts and, regrettably, no flux capacitors.
Put a Focus diesel next to a Focus petrol and tell me it's quieter. At idle, at 1/2 revs, or at 3/4 max revs (change-up point for a diesel, right?!? wink), the diesel will be noisier inside the cabin and out.

You're thinking of performance petrol, which is a little unfair as they're designed to sound louder...
Sorry, I was referring to the LeMans and Touring car diesel comments and peoples wild ideas about why the Audi LeMans cars where so quiet (huge exhaust mufflers to stop the black smoke rolleyes ) . You're probably right about the Foci though, although I can't imagine the difference would be huge.

Your right, the N54 engine found in the 135i and the 335i is a bi-turbo not sequential turbo charging like on the M57TU. So the quote "Yet despite the bigger turbo doing its thing at higher revs, it’s rarely necessary to extend the ‘six’ beyond 5,000rpm" Isnt quite accurate. Alot of people at work dont like the 1 series coupe but I supose its an aquiried taste but it is much more chuckable than the 3 series even if it doesent have the same classy look as the 3.
