+1. The Jaguar was out of date. The Tornado is an awesome plane that unfortunately (or, fortunately, I guess) no longer has a role. If we had an arizona desert, they'd be a great plane to mothball. But we're the UK, so we'll probably store them in a ditch somewhere and use the rest for target practice.

Its still one of the best looking planes ever, IMHO- doesnt just look fast, looks like its absoloutley screaming along. And just ugly enough to look mean, without being inelegant.

On the other hand, I remember seeing a photograph (if not a video) of a car being catapulted off the deck of an aircraft carrier.
idea Now a video of a Lambo vs an F-18 on the deck of the USS Enterprise, now that would be worth watching!

(OK, so the F-18 uses a catapult. I'm sure that the Lambo could be hooked to one as well.)

New Ssupercar cant even beat Jet designed nearly 50 years ago.....

must be a shite car then.
Designed 50 years ago maybe but technology wise very up to date (tornado wise)
No, it's not. It SHOULD be close to retirement.
Its 70's technology and very out of date. The RAF have already started to retire some variants as Typhoon comes into service.
Its not out of date
Yes it is. Its unreliable and maintenance costs are soaring as equipment obsolescence issues become more critical.

Anyone notice in the first photo, it appears that the jets canopy it being held open with a telescopic paint rolling pole from B&Q?

Looks more like a Tornado canopy strut to me.......allows the canopy to be held open for periods of maintenance or to cool the cockpit without putting strain on the canopy actuation system (especially if its windy)

70's tech... like the f-15. F-16 and f-18 yes? The fighter variants are being replaced, but in it's proper role, fast bomber, the tornado is a great package and is well respected.

Don't be stupid. Just give the car to me, and save some money, and hassle when it comes to the insurance claim............Don't think they would accept " fell of a ship" hehe

THIS IS UTTER BALONEY.

THE JET AT 1500M WOULD BE JUST SUB-SONIC AND SHORLTY AFTER THAT SUPERSONIC.

THERE IS NO WAY ANY CAR WOULD KEEP UP WITH A JET.

Er, so you're saying a Tornado can do 0-600mph in less than one mile? rofl

I assume you realise that this equivalent to an average acceleration of about 4g?

The Tornado IS a good platform.

Sadly, in a modern theatre it's survivability is questionable, the airframes are all old and getting older, and it wasn't designed with the latest maintenance advances in mind...so it's starting to cost a lot to maintain.

The F Mk3 is being retired in favour of a better platform all-round (except for the loss of the 2nd pair of eyes), there is currently nothing that would directly replace the GR Mk4 (F18E/F maybe?) in the strike role, but that role is less relevant now - CAS is far more likely to be required.

Therefore I stand by my post - they should be retired soon.

I remember another bomber being retired obselete in 1982 with no replacement and then oh sh*t what are we going to do?

Point is plan for tomorrow not today, the day you are short of the right machine for the job your screwed.

I would have thought the need for multi role was stronger than ever? and how do you declare obselete anyway? vs likely aggressor, world leader at the time?
Australia still use the F111, still more than capable of bombing a terror state of your choice.

Australia still uses the F111, yes but only just, retired next year- no replacement that works, We have a fine reputation here, Subs that cant carry a full complement of torpedoes and are noisy, Planes that are grounded and tanks they cant carry in the ships they have .... Shush...
