Very sad news indeed.
Let's hope someone else is able to step forward to continue the great work he's done for drivers throughout Britain.

RIP Paul.

I hope everyone realises what this means - Paul was the ONLY outspoken voice against our insidious oppressors and afaic they killed him.

You have to say this is an absolute disaster for PH.

I am stunned.

RIP Paul, you will be in our thoughts.
I wasn't sure if this was the right place to say it.
But I'll say it anyway.

There'll be a few people within the so called authorities, that'll be relieved by Paul's passing.
RIP Paul Smith - I didn't know the man but know who he was and what good things he stood for

I'm sure you are correct that there will be certain people will be relieved at his passing. Isn't it interesting that those who are sure of their stand encourage debate whereas those are not quite so sure try to quash it because they might be found out.

However, there is still the beacon of the Association of British Drivers who are another organisation campaigning for what Paul stood for, the rights of drivers all over the UK. They continue the good fight - http://www.abd.org.uk .

I'm seriously shocked. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Paul's posts (direct or indirect) and given praise that there is someone really standing up for us motorists, a voice of sanity in an increasingly mad motoring world. I can hear the government bully-boys cracking their knuckles already.

My condolences to his family.

Awful, awful news. frown

Whilst never having met Paul he is for me and must have been for every other Ph'er, THE one single individual who's hand deserved to be shaken for his tireless work in trying to remedy the ridiculous situation that we the motorist, find ourselves in thanks to our democratically elected government.....

RIP Paul, you will be sorely missed.

My condolences to Pauls family.

Condolences to Paul's family, he was a one off and will be greatly missed by many, many people, except some of those in 'authority' and folk such as George Monbiot who couldn't match his intellect and drive!

I only spoke to Paul on the telephone once and exchanged a few e mails but our common electronics engineering background connected. I suspect that it was the logical analysis that an engineering background offers that enabled him to focus so tightly on the problem of the flawed 'official' statistics and the people that peddle them. Folk such as dear old George M just can't match his practical kind of analytical clout and are left with ad hominem insults and repeated sound bites that don't stand up to even superficial close scrutiny. I hope that George has the guts to say something nice (and sensible) at this time.

In one e mail I said to Paul that he deserved a medal for all his hard detailed work in exposing these people and their ideas. Sadly, he won't be given one now . . .

Anybody know why the Safe Speed website is down and/or why this sad event hasn't been noted in the press? The passing of such a man should be noted more fully.

Condolences to Pauls family, and to anyone who REALLY cares about motoring safety for that matter.
I bet the government and the safety camera partnerships are glad that someone who spoke the truth about road safety, is no longer able to challenge them. A sad day for us all.

Some may have disagreed with him but nobody could ever accuse him of not telling the truth. Paul was a man of complete integrity and a seeker of justice. If this makes him sound like Superman, then in a way I guess that's just what he was.

He made so many people think about road safety in a new light. I remember on the infamous Peter Ward/LTI thread he said something about speed limits not doing any good but concentrating on the road did good and it did A LOT of good. It was the way he said it that hit home, for all his scientific knowledge, it was his ability to impart that knowledge in a way that the rest of us laymen could understand that I appreciate.

RIP Paul.
