The Dakar is dangerous as it is, but the risk of competitors being attacked or having to go through a combat zone is too much and not what they signed up for.

Dakar is the only thing that brightens up my sad little life in January. Bu&&er !
Those guys are heroes, whether in cars, buggies, trucks or bikes ( but especially the bikers!)
I can understand the authorities if they had some specific warning. After all they only need to take a hit against the support trucks or planes & every competitor is then at risk given the remoteness & hostility of the route.

Look forward to next year now I guess.

Just do it somewhere else, Australia for instance! Then get the Army to do the Dakar!

.... as far as I am aware we had no terrorist threats in the UK before we attacked Afghanistan.
So you've conveniently forgotten the IRA, various other Irish Terrorist organisations and the various threats from different Middle Eastern factions that have been active for many decades.....?

On stops, another starts, the only constant is that we're always under threat from one extremist organisation or another.

These guys have been stopped from going through what is pretty much a war zone, I know many racers are built from Kevlar, but it's not usually the bullet proof kind....

well here's a crazy idea leave the irish and middle eastern people alone, get the f*ck off their land and let them live their lives take your sanctions and stick em where the sun don't shine as for america's interests in the middle east thats the root off all evil- its like me pitching my tent in your backyard then slowly taking over you, your house, your town etc. anyways who died and left the west in charge? leave people be and no-one will come half way across the world to bomb you, its not rocket science.

not a personal attack mate.

I was being sarcastic. While 9/11 acted as a catalyising event for the military operations we are currently embroiled in, theres ohhh 50 odd years of history behind it all going back to when we carved up the middle east in the years following WWII.

I really do find the level of simplification some people apply to this topic quite scary.

If you are religeous or just a beleiver in Evolution, you will notice that when god made the world (or things evolved) he put different types of peopl on different parts of the planet.

These people were like minded and all looked the same.

Now look at the mess we have now that we have mixed things up.
