Steering has no feel, brakes are over assisted (why is every modern car like this?)
Because that is what punters are used to now.I had a woman test driving a Porsche 996 Carrera 4S tell me the brakes on her Punto were much better than the Porsche ones as a little press on the Punto pedal has her nearly through the windscreen (the Porsche brakes are much weightier and provide tons of feedback).
Just had mine delivered. Only driven it across the car park (parked in the wrong space) so don't have much impression of it.
Very quick, Initial-at-a-glance thoughts are: cabin seems great, really quiet, solid feel (not quite german though) Brakes and steering are horribly assisted and the clutch is really soft.
I've got the petrol one which is a shame, I was actually hoping for the derv. i'll be driving 600+ miles in it this weekend, will see how it does with petrol.

Mine is here. Moon roof thingy, 1.6 petrol. Not much else to say just done 150 miles in it and seems ok, ride reminds me of my Defender 90 bit choppy to say the least, and quite hard seats. Although I had an Espace IV I couldn't for the life of me remember how to change the radio to MW, but I was driving it in the dark for the first time. I think the radio on this car is dangerous its so difficult to use. Lights very good indeed, 5 miles down the A1 I realised it had 6 gears! The speedo has a circle of lights around it which come on when you use the cruise.
Mine had 666 miles and a bit of a dent in the front. It goes over speedbumps nicely at speed.
I actually think my Citroen ZX non turbo diesel is only marginally slower, but as a freebie thumbs up. And they told me this morning that they can't collect until Wednesday.

On the 3rd stalk on the right that controls volume etc, there's buttons on the back and top. I Think it's the very top ones that change the FM->MW->CD etcGot mine around 3.30 yesterday. According to the data sheet its the 1.5 DCI VVT and it has a sticker on the rear window which says ECO2.
I wouldnt have bought one before and i certainly wont buy one now.
Stearing is extremley light, brakes are heavily assisted and sharp as hell.
Interior is pretty decent and very quiet from the inside but outside the engine is very load. The horn is probably the gayest i have ever heard.
Only drove it over to my dads yesterday and to work this morning. My conclusion: Its a girls car.

Well I've had mine for the weekend now and covered 700 miles...
My thoughts are pretty much the same as everyone else.
The good points are a nice interior, lots of space, good dash, excellent cruise control, feels well built, nice and quiet. The handling is surprisingly well sorted for a big hatch, with a little lift off oversteer if you're keen
The bad is the god awful engine and drive train. The gearbox was crap, and the engine the most pathetic excuse for a modern 1.6 i've ever come across. The radio was pretty ste too.
Oh, and I only managed 29mpg on a 80-90 mph motorway run.
Somehow, they've managed to create an engine that not only has a tiny, useless powerband for a petrol, but also drinks petrol in big lumps. Congratulations Renault.
