What problems will I face when driving a DTM replica?
Discussion
The plate is to wind up my mate (drives an Evo 7 that he thinks is a sports car, lol)
I've got some PVC tape in the car i can use to cross through them if I get stopped. TBH I doubt most coppers would be aware of that law or even care (if it exists!)
As for the insurance, it'll be declared.

I thought I was told that the issue with race numbers on cars was that, if you do have an accident, you might need to convince your insurance company that you weren't racing on the road. But I am no expert.
I've heard similar, about them not even being road legal.I've got some PVC tape in the car i can use to cross through them if I get stopped. TBH I doubt most coppers would be aware of that law or even care (if it exists!)

top notch work
always wanted to do it with a volvo s40 into the btcc replica,
but then theres the whole "no money problem"
regardless, good effort!!
They look great. Was the S40 the estate that they raced in the BTTC? Ricard Rydell style?always wanted to do it with a volvo s40 into the btcc replica,

I quite fancy doing a Primera or Vectra as well (full interior though, as a daily driver)
When I used to do stage rallies we were told that whilst on the event and using the road section (public road) we were fine as it is part of the event - same for gumball and road rallies / tours etc.
But if we retired from an event and drove the car on the road or if we were out doing engine mapping etc we had the numbers crossed through - reasons were:
A) not racing or on an event - general public seem to think if the number is not crossed through that you are racing through thier village / town and call the police.
B) demonstrates to plod that your not racing
C) insurance company cant suggest you were racing and uninsured therefore if number crossed through.

Can you please tell me where you insure a car like that? I had no end of problems insuring my last car (It had similar modifications), I had to insure it as a stage rally car in the end. No one will touch a car with an aftermarket roll cage.
Your gonna tell me Adrian Flux now arn't you?

Having a racing license the rules state that I must cover the numbers up on the roads or I will get an endorsement on my race license for bringing the RACMSA into disrepute (or something along those lines).
As far as numbers go for sides of the cars there are no legal rules stopping it, or else the Foxton and other estate agents round my area would be getting pulled all the time. All of course IMHO.

Thanks for the input.
Re- insurance I was planning on ringing round and declaring the modifications in general terms ie "engine mods to achieve xBHP" and "various body alterations to imitate the DTM car" else I'd be there all day listing the mods (probably 3/4 pages worth, lol)
I think I'll give it a go on the roads without the race numbers crossed. As I said before I doubt many plod will know/care about that particular law. I certainly dont drive like a cock anywhere except A-roads (and even then only when it's quiet)

Fantastic looking car, well done
I'm sure Garlic will be along soon, apparently all cars with stickers and spoilers are a bit Barry
I'm sure a lot of people won't see past the bodykit and spoiler, because they are probably the most obvious features.I'm sure Garlic will be along soon, apparently all cars with stickers and spoilers are a bit Barry
I didn't actually fit the wide arch kit in the end, it's a bit flimsy to be honest. If I do go wide-body, it will be with proper welded steel box arches and skirts to match. Not some half-arsed fibreglass attempt.

a decent s40 t4 can be had for a couple of grand now, shame its FWD,
then again to change that is all a case of money
primera would be heaps cheap with old GT's going for nothing these days (not a bad idea actually....youve got me started!)
whathave you done interior wise in here? a digidash would be drool worthy....in my opinion
Anyway, top one and beats the sight of calibras with drainpipe exhausts and led running lights!

Strip it out, stick it on coilovers then start saving for TB's. It could be spread over a year or two. I have a VERY good contact for vinyls too
Interior wise I've not done that much except the seats pictured, some stack gauges, momo wheel and a LOT of messy wiring. Removing the sound deadening took the piss as well but saved a lot of weight.
Tis true though, most Calibras now are just McDonalds specials
