I really need to know how to time this properly - when do you buy the new tax disc to ensure it all works? 28th Feb? Then it'll be valid from 1st March but for 1 year under the current rate?

The new rates come in force April 1, is that right? Therefore we have to apply at the old rate commencing March 1, 2009.

I think in the budget anything can still change, and increases apply immediately, not from April 1st. Budget is usually mid-month.

I can't see how the DVLA could refuse; they'd be on seriously dodgy ground, but hey, anything is possible under this Government.

Never done this before. My VEL is due to be renewed on 1st October. My plan is to tax it for six months as opposed to twelve. That would make my next VEL due next April and at the new rate.
If I SORN my car mid to late February, will I get a refund for the month of March? Also, if I apply for 12 months VEL in March will I get it at the old rate?

Have I got this right?
