IIRC, Jaguar sent a demonstrator (may have been roadster 77RW or coupe 9600HP? To 'open up' the new freeway; first car up the road.

awesome car but i was hoping the reviewer would drive the car and give some real impression of what its like to drive rather than a very 3rd party review..

A real roadtest is what would really show what this car is like 40 years on...

I must post these:

Racing RAM with plates, big Holley on a 6.6 litre and way over 600 brake. Sidepipes big enough to stick your arm in. The sound . . .

Hardtop Cob, a real one.

First Tunnel Run with Wayne's 460 Cid Torino Ford powered RAM, torque all over . . . Very, comfy whilst sitting upright.

Cobra poster was next to Bon Scott and the Countach and Kim Wilde on my boyrooms wall.

AC Cobra is a fantastic car. I'd love an narrow 289. Something like "39PH" would be great.

As for testing, I'm sure they all did it. Aston certainly used to. One well known story involves John Wyer (who later ran the Gulf GT40/ 917) sending a test driver out on the M1 from Newport Pagnall. He would drive down to London, then to Leeds, then back to the factory. After making a "few phone calls", he looks out of the winder to see the driver still with the car, filling up.

"Why havent you ledt yet?" he asked
"I've been..." said the rather hurt looking driver!

AC famously made the papers with their higyh speed testing (it must have been a slow news day) and didnt Jaguar write off the XJ13 on a Motorway???

Absolutely, a genius, with the patience of a saint, on personal terms with every nut bolt and split pin on a Cobra.

My Cobra replica is a Gardner Douglas one. Something of a reputation for excellent handling. I've driven late model TVRs and Cobras back to back on track and drag-strip. I got rid of the TVR. From my admittedly limited track-day experience (3-4 times a year), I find only really good drivers, track specials, or, more track focussed Porches are really any quicker. I'm so smitten, I can't see what will make me move on.
