worse thing i ever did was sell my '95 MX5 in hind sight i should have kept it - it was in such good condition. the bloody girl that bought it wrote it off
I'm selling my mint Mk1 '5 soon and I'm worried about this sort of thing.I had a very good offer on the car from a chap at work but I refused it point blank as I don't trust that he'll look after the car properly.
I dread to think what that says about me!!

Just out of sheer curiosity, what model did you drive? And what do you drive now?
A 1.8 mk1 and I drive an impreza now. I don't drive the impreza for the same reasons I was test driving the mazda. I don't currently have a car I particularly like the driving experience of but needs must and all that. My favourite cars for driving feel that I've had are westfields and my old porsche 944 (which was fantastic and in the same price bracket as mazdas). I would definitely consider a mazda with a lot more power as while I rate driving experience for me power is part of that and something that was missing in the mazda and the rest of it didn't make up for it. It's down to taste though but I just feel the mazda is overrated.Dale@RSRNurburg" Target="_blank">class="forumQuoter">Dale@RSRNurburg said:
You will never hear me say a bad word about mine. I work as in instructor at a race school on the Nurburgring and get to drive everything from £500 to £500k. And although the standard car UK car is a bit wobbly, especially as they age, the Jap-specs with Bilsteins and braces are proper little Elise-wannabes and only £1500 to boot.
Here's my asthmatic little example fighting through the corners with some far more expensive machinery. On sticky tyres the Mazda (mine on polybushes, caged and track tyres) will hold 105mph through corners that I can only push a 996 through at around 100mph...
What a fantastic video! The MX-5 passing the Porsche took the biscuit! Now, I'm off to watch it again. Are you sure it only has 100hp?
bought one a couple of years ago as a stepping stone/fill in till i could get a Caterham...
...now want to keep the '5 and get a 7 as well...
Does everything i ask of it... reliable daily driver, tracked, weekend camping gear hauler...

The MX-5 isn't necessarily the greatest car ever made, but it's certainly up there with the front runners
There's one small inaccuracy in the article, the bottom picture states that the Mk1 was available from '89 to '97 - mine is a 1998 model.

On the the OC theres an excel sheet that you can use to work out when it was built (not registered), my car was right up at the end of production of the mk1 its September '97, i'm not sure when the line altered to mk2, but i'm sure it was '97.There's one small inaccuracy in the article, the bottom picture states that the Mk1 was available from '89 to '97 - mine is a 1998 model.

I had a MK1 - loved it, thought it was excellent. Up there with the greatest cars ever made - not convinced. To make it a truly fantastic car it required to much after market modification. I'd still drive them cos the mrs has one.

I admit I had viewed them with a little cynicism, until an ex of mine decided she wanted one. I helped her source it and then was given the onerous task of driving it back from Didcot to Daventry, while she followed in her Frontera.
Bugger me, what a revelation! She'd gone for the 1.8, so there was (IMHO) more than enough grunt there and the handling on the twisty bits blew me away. I'd driven an MGB (belonging to the mother of another ex) before and I found the MX5 to be a truly modern interpretation of it. Only better.
Hers had the common (so I gather) fault of a leaky clutch (or was it brake?) cylinder - but this was easily and cheaply fixed (by me - earning several brownie points in the process).
We went out once for a "hoon", her in the '5 and me in the 'Rocco. Now, obviously, I wouldn't admit that she wiped the floor with me, but I certainly had a sweat on!
Brilliant little cars; wouldn't hesitate to get one.
(And that button on the dash that makes the headlights go up and down is the coolest thing ever.)

Well, I used to think it was a girls car until I drove one!!
A month later, I had sold my car and purchased one myself Absolutely love it, although I am torn whether or not to start messing with it! Half of me thinks it could do with a bit more straight line speed (not excessive, just another 40-50bhp or so with decent brakes and adjustable suspension to match) whilst the other half thinks I should keep it as is!

Nice, I wouldn't mind swapping those seats and a bit of cash to the new owner to drop the price down a bit more lord summerisle said:
