RE: That's The Spray To Do It
Discussion
In Corsica on the Tolla to Ocana Stage (Where Tommi Mak went off and had his car upside down on the edge of the road) some one wrote exactly that on the road. It was clearly visable in 2002 and 2003.
I went there for a holiday last week and went to take a pic....and sadly it's faded.

Such wanton vandelism
Surely it'll get to a point with all that paint that grip will be compromised?
Its spray paint, the paint in microns thick sprayed on tarmac its not going to affect grip very much at all, plus most of it is done on straights not at bend apexes.Surely it'll get to a point with all that paint that grip will be compromised?
We live near the ring 6 months of the year.
It is an accepted aspect of the ring. As some have said it is like a calling card. Not that it is not taken seriously if you are caught doing it. But as others that know the locals and the history of the place, the people on track who are real quick use some of the grafitti as referane points for turn-in and brake markers.
yes there are a few places where the retards that visit decide to vulgarise with obcenities and "giant willy's". but when you watch things like the 24hr race on the nordschleife the grafitti is often shown as it is all part of the place.
As for lack of grip i personally know the 3 quickest bike riders around the place and the grafitti is not what causes them problems when looking for a sub 7'30" lap. Of greater importance is the change of tarmac grip levels when new sections are resurfaced. Even the serious car drivers are more concerned with differant tarmac surfaces. Especially in the wet, when each side of the car is subjected to different levels of grip when commited.
Long may the grafitti remain.

lol, it's a tradition... even my xbox games have the ring with paint over just pass the long straight... i disagree with over-doing it though... especially if it reduces grip, and i, for one would not risk my life by placing it on a piece of track where going 150 over-crest is the norm...
Here's a better pic

Whilt us Brits look on graffiti as vandalism the Germans have a different aspect on it.
You should see the French on graffiti! There is definitely a bridge section round Paris where they managed to paint the section before it was put in place, so the graffiti is upside down.StevieGee said:

You only have to vist Berlin to see exactly how much this view differs.
If you had ever visited Berlin while the wall was still up you would've noticed the difference between East & West just by the colours.
The West was always bright and colourful and the East was depressingly grey & very drab.
I was lucky enough to be in Berlin visiting the wifes family the week during which the Wall came down.
Only last year a building that was due to be demolished in what was East Berlin was actually saved by graffiti artists and is now a sort of gallery open to all.
Expressly to show off this particular sort of art form.
As much as you may think a subliminal advert can be good for PH, I think PistonHeads should not be condoning it ! You only have to vist Berlin to see exactly how much this view differs.

Any kind of graffiti is just wanton vandalism and should not do tolerated in any way, "even" at the Nurbergring. Can't understand why anyone would justify it.
I am surprised that the Germans allow such childish behavior at such a prestigious venue even though some see it as "the thing to do" ?
Bet you would not be happy if someone sprayed PH South Wales on your driveway or house ? or does the PH stand for "PR!CK HEAD" now that's more suitable !

hahaha well, i dunno, think it is getting a bit serious... it IS part of the tradition as far as i am aware, in the same way spectators graffiti stages in Tour de France as some one already pointed out.
There is a line tho. someone spraying a willy on the track is stupid and more like random vandalism. Same if someone wrote "alex *hart* Tracey" or "Kevin is gay" (randome names, don't get it twisted if got one of you lot with it! ). but within the context of motorsport then i think it is ok, provided it shows support rather then just murking cars/drivers/companies. Bit of a grey area but surely you all know what i mean.
Lots of PHers will have been or will go to the 'Ring and they might think, "oh yeah, look!". its within a context, and for people that will recognise it. Any comparison with public streets and high ways is meaning less. Like saying, "would YOU like some one running a 24hr race down your street..." Well actually....

I just think people are reading into this far too much. Its obvious that a few people were keeping in fashion with what has already been in existence at the ring for so many decades, and are both fans of the circuit and good old PH.
I dont really know why people are acting like this about something that is, really, pretty tame... oh, and referring to previous comments, id be more than happy people tagging my local tarmac if it means i can get the new GTR doing a few hotlaps round my estate
