Ed China, Wheeler Dealers.
Discussion
Im just watching an episode of Wheeler Dealers now and he is bringing a Range Rover classic back to life, he is fitting a new head lining, what a tricky job this bloke has got the patience of a saint as his so called mate Mike Brewer buys him some proper snotters for him to test his ability!
[quote=pete nice from volkszone.com]I used to work for Edd, & have met Mike quite a few times. The TV companies love the presenters to be all 'TV' when they are around. If you get to chat to mike when nobody is around he is a really nice bloke.
I was on the wheeler dealers beach buggy episode. I was the seller of the blue beetle.
It actually belonged to Edd, who sold it to the tv company, it had been sitting in the yard for about 2 years before hand.
Edd used to play with VW's in his younger days but has moved on to more radical projects. He doesn't really care for aircooled stuff to use seriously these days but has had a fair share of them in his time.
The show is light entertainment, it's not a documentary & is supposed to be fun. The buyers & sellers are bought in as extras from the crew's friends & familly. It makes it much easier to control & is safe. The production crew are on a tight schedule to get about 6 cars done in around 8-10 weeks.
The production crew buy the cars, they know fk all about cars & often buy a pup. Thats why when you see them for sale there is often a load more work been done as it's not 'in the script'
It's all a bit of fun & the TV crew want the presenters to be a bit OTT...

Ah, great, another "entertainment" programme then. So it's a lie from start to finish. Any chance someone could actually make a fact-based car programme? You'll be telling me next that Wrecks to Riches isn't true :Rolleyes:It actually belonged to Edd, who sold it to the tv company, it had been sitting in the yard for about 2 years before hand.

I honestly had began to think edd wasn't actually a mechanic but based on absoulty nothing and was thinking he was really just acting for the purposes of the show. as i said based on nothing apart from the titles at the end when he was listed as a presenter and other unheard of names under the mechanic title.
So glad to hear hes not just an actor. Although i hate watching it while my wifes in the room, she has taken a major dislike to the way he describes things and occasionally imitates him. Does amuse me and so watch it some more, now i even enjoy taking the piss out of "amercias next top model" and such things even more

I quite like watching him do his stuff, I sort of figured that it would all be staged. Still, I don't get too many car programmes in my part of the world and the Discovery Channel is my saviour! I'm not sure if they are showing it in the UK, but out here we are currently getting re runs of 'A Trike Is Born' and 'A 4x4 Is Born'.
Top stuff!

Having a programme showing us how to fit headlining to a Range Rover perhaps is evidence that we may just have a few too many TV channels.....
Well it beats all the other umpteen programmes on how to boil an egg. I like him, he seems like a real hands on chap. You know, the type you could call up on a Sunday afternoon to help balance your carburettors AND he would enjoy doing it and afterwards you would go for a blast up the road and then off to the local pub.
I think he should be given his own series (but I thought this for years)
