RE: PH Heroes: Honda Integra Type-R

cyberface,
Drove a VX220 n/a shortly after shifting the 'teg, and it didn't feel as rounded a package, albeit the steering and brakes were very good, and the ride/feel was very similar - focused, uncompromising, but not silly-stiff. As a weekend / track-car, it'd probably (if well set-up) edge the 'teg as an ownership prospect, but would depend largely on the owners preferences. Pace aside, I'd not pitch the VXT any differently.
On-track, I'd expect a VXT, if driven well (!!!), to muller a 'teg. But it'd be harder to get the best out of, so with comparable amateur drivers I'd say the 'teg would be easily on-pace at the start of a track-day, while the VXT would be quicker later on, IYSWIM.
(Just come back from a track-day at Anglesey in a BaT Caterham, and the little 7 was easily sticking with an S1 Exige, but was being harried big-style by an S1 Elise (spec unknown) ...while a big surprise was a little Fiesta ST monstering a brand-new CTR AND an '07 Golf GTi (!) ...just goes to show how much driver ability affects track-day pace!)

i cant see why the GTI6 is being compared to the ITR, by the 60 mark the teg is already 1 second ahead.
And this whole low down grunt rubbish lol, an extra 200cc and atleast an extra 100kg's of weight makes the gti6 slower in that aspect as well
people tend to forget how heavy the GTI6 is lol
You've not driven either, have you?!? Certainly not both, or you'd not be saying that...And this whole low down grunt rubbish lol, an extra 200cc and atleast an extra 100kg's of weight makes the gti6 slower in that aspect as well

Im not saying that the GTI6 doesnt handle well because it does but comparing the rallye would be a better comparison.
I owned a DC2 for quite a while, drove it quite a bit on track, including Croft. I did my ARDS at Croft too, in a GTI6.
Both are good fun and, on the quicker corners at least, avoid behaving like typical front drivers. The GTI6 was very forgiving, the steering was feelsome and it seemed fairly happy on track. Not quick, but spritely enough.
The Integra feels a whole lot sharper, meaner, taughter- especially entering and exiting slow corners. The Integra was very good through the Complex at Croft, less understeery through the right hander than the 306 and great traction as you exit the hairpin.
Through the Esses the Integra would feel a bit edgier, needed a little more respect. Great on the brakes into Sunny, though.
On the road the differences are harder to judge, both cars can put a smile on your face.

The Rallye is lighter by so little that it could be easily made up by having a particularly heavy jack in the boot or a half full tank of fuel, or going for a massive sh*t first.
The cars are also old enough so that any small difference are more than made up for by the condition of the individual car - I test drove examples of both and it just so happened that the best was was a Gti. The sole reason for buying a Rallye over a GTi-6 is they come in cooler colours and are rarer.

Thanks for the info then, just seems strange that they made the rallye version yet didnt tweek anything underneath? The cars are also old enough so that any small difference are more than made up for by the condition of the individual car - I test drove examples of both and it just so happened that the best was was a Gti. The Gti-6 was very expensive when new (I have the bill of sale for mine its about £19000 pound in 1999). So the Rallye was designed to be cheaper, by not having all the electrics, sunroof, A/C, leather, fog lights etc etc.
Its exactly the same mechanically - dampers, wheels, brakes, engine, gearbox...

I was dead set on getting an ITR about this time last year, then the turbo bug got me and I noticed I could get a GT4 for the same price / insurance, which is what I did.
Damn. After reading this, makes me REALLY consider selling my GT4 (At a loss of probably 1k!) and forking out for an ITR...Argh.

I owned my dc2 for 2 years before a moment of madness caused me to advertise/sell it on pistonheads . That was around 12 months ago now, and I've not replaced it with anything (have a runabout). Looked at other options like dc5/sti/evo vi tme/viii but i can't seem to get away from the dc2 and i'm seriously considering buying another one.
Shame, as mine was a really mint example and if i could go back, I'd never have sold it.

I do love the looks of the original ITRs, but theres just something about the newer model that I like more.

I think they look brilliant.

looks wise, most people would agree that the dc5 is a step forward, and i won't argue, when i first say one in championship white in the flesh, it was love at first sight, but after selling my dc2, i test drove a dc5 and wasn't 100% hooked; there probably quicker than the dc2's but don't feel as raw/special, if that makes any sense.
I had one 8ish years ago. What do I remember. The touring car whine. The revs. The fact that it wanted to be a fwd car. I think they were something like 60% + weight bias to the front. The brakes where the abs threshold was set properly high. 15'' wheels too. The hard ride in normal use made me sell it though.

What are these like as a 'family' car, ie, ASDA once a week, taking the kids to school etc, etc..
Do the front seats tip forward easily (or at all)??
Theres a couple of red ones on autotrader at the moment that are very tempting.
Boot is HUGE - clearly bigger than Mk1 Focus, albeit longer and shallower, and with a very tall lip. Rear seats 50/50 fold to nearly-flat too.Do the front seats tip forward easily (or at all)??

Front seats tip forwards, but don't slide, so if you're tall get them in from the passenger side with the pass. seat set forwards a little more than yours. The seat-backs do return to the same position though, unlike CTR seats!
Rear leg and head-room quite suitable for someone up to c. 5'6", 2 rear seats only.
Downside is it's bumpy and NOISY*, and there's nothing for them to do in the back. Plus the cloth/alcantara will be a b'tch to clean if they spill anything on it...
- Still, if they start acting up, just drop it a cog and nail it...they'll either shut-up or the engine will drown 'em out!

I'm not too sure what it would be like for the kids, shouldn't be that bad I guess (remeber only a 4 seater thou), I'm sure someone else will confirm. Seats tip forward, all my friends have no problems getting in and out.Do the front seats tip forward easily (or at all)??

With regard to weekly shop it will be fine, boot is very large (but a lil bit shallow compared to my old Escort). I often do the weekly shop for a family of 5 adults and it swallows it all no problem.
Red is the best colour too
