RE: PH Heroes: Ford GT40
Discussion
I'm sitting within a few minutes of a whole bunch of GT40's (real), Daytona Coupe(s), The first GT350, Cobra 427's...
http://shelbyamericancollection.org/collection.htm...
Last time I was there they had 5 GT40's not including the Ford GT development mule (just after the Ford GT being released), they had MkI's, MKII, MKIII street car, 2 MKIV's
They also had 2 of the Daytona Coupes and a '60s South African race teams attempt to emulate the Daytona Coupe.

look at that GORGEOUS Daytona Coupe in the photo! - Presumably not a real one?
It's a Superformance.filski666 said:
Factory Five Racing in the states do an excellent [visually appealing, but abysmally engineered and manufactured] replica of this

Always toyed with the idea of getting a good replica,i should fit at 6'3". Still one of the best looking cars,if not the best.
I doubt you'd fit in - I have a Ford GT and at your height it's tight, the replicas are smaller...Don't fit in the Stratos replica either!

The Gulf GT40 in the images will be out at Rockingham taking out VIP's during lunch on both the Sunday and Monday this coming w/e. To ride as a passenger in the car and experience her up close and personal, go to www.britishgt.com for details of their VIP packages.

I also see a yellow Lambo Miura . . . are these cars just sitting there?
No some are raced in Vintage races, some are rotated through other collections. And yes the Miura was there on one of my visits, but not the other.
The guy running the museum even let my nephews sit in a Cobra gokart, and gave them each matchbox sized cobras.
It's a small place, but has very high quality cars.

I don't think there's a UK manufacturer at the moment - but CAV could easily supply you and I imagine they have a UK partner.
Just found a stunning photo of the Ford GTX-1, the convertible version of the Ford GT.
Clarkson also does a track test of this car in his "The Good The Bad The Ugly" DVD.

Not only is this car (in my opinion) an improvement in the looks department but it also sounds absolutely stunning, Clarkson telling us that they've upped the power from 550bhp to a whopping 700bhp!
He goes on to say that it's as good as anything he's ever driven, "the special relationship at it's absolute best".
It's also replaced the red original GT40 MK I as my screen saver.

Unfortunately the firm that made the GTX-1 went under. A great shame as they were producing fabulous looking cars. I was tempted to 'chop' mine, but it would have been too complex as the conversion was very much a US product.
As to the increase in power, the standard engine is producing a conservative 550bhp and is capable of much more - many US owners are comfortably north of 700bhp and a few even over 1,000

The Gennadi Design Company say customers have until August 31st if they want their GT's to be turned into convertibles.
So far only 100 customers have come forward - which would probably make the GTX-1 a very expensive commodity in years to come.
Regarding the Ford GT, it seems a very quiet car, do Ford have a "GT sports exhaust" that can alter this or is it up to customers to source their own exhaust system?
1000bhp - the mind boggles!

I wanted a '40 since I was a kid, and last August I managed to fulfil my dream with a Tornado TS40 replica. It is an awesome car to own - the noise of a very lightly silenced 5.0l V8 inches from your head is unbeleivable. Performance is spectacular, but as mentioned in the article, they are not the easiest of things to drive.
The biggest drawback is that everytime you park up or fuel up, an anorak who feels obliged to proove that he knows more about the car than it's owner is guaranteed to be checking the car out. I have been told about the famous 1,2,3 in 1966 more times than I can remember! I don't suppose I'll get much sympathy though....

how much did you pay?
