I thought the 5GT was based on the 7 floorplan / drive train.

yeh .....that's what's been said anyway
I dont want to be pedantic but

There were some very cheap lease deals on those a few years back. Interior is incredible (based on a 7), they are certainly practical, but I don't think I could live with the looks.
slippery said:
To clarify, the interior is better than a standard 5 series and is based on a 7. I would describe a 1 or a 3 series as standard BMW fodder, but I'm not passionate enough about any of them to argue about it. smile
These helpful comments focus on the interior. I made a specific point about the floorplan / drive train. Just because a car has the same seats doesn't mean it has the same suspension. If seats matter to you then you are informed. If the suspension dynamics of a car and its ability to waft and / or soak up bumps matter to you then I have informed you.

When the 5 GT was launched the 5 series was still in e61 guise. Now it has moved on. An early 5 GT is no e61.

hmm, well i've said this before, having owned a recent XF portfolio i can see why they depreciate so much. It is luxurious but the quality is poor. The XJ seems to depreciate at an even steeper rate. There's only one reason for that, as Jag brand is valuable right now. fk knows how.

I drove an XF and F10 back to back. I perceived a much higher quality product from BMW.

The ride was nicer on the BMW 18s with fancy suspension, too

well i've never driven a BMW of any age (PH gasp) but I can definitely imagine it would be better than a rattly, squeaky Jag that breaks down every few weeks.

Well, after a rather unsuccessful attempt with a Phaeton, I gave up, it just wasn't the car I hoped it would be. 21mpg wasn't good enough for my commute, so it went, very quickly to a colleauge of mine!

So to replace, well, I thought I would put some more money into my Landrover, and didn't want to spend a fortune, so the new steed

2002 Rover 75 Connoisseur CDTi Auto - Saloon. Finished in Wedgewood Blue, with 125k on the clock, and FSH. £145 with a fresh MOT, thats a proper barge for the summer towing months!

£145? How? Why would someone not just weigh it in at that money?

Some bottom-budget barge. Superb VFM I think.

If I hasn't suitably x50i'd myself in the past few weeks, I'd be on the phone!
