Bork fund would need to be £10k - lovely though
Agreed. That would apply to pretty much all high end Mercedes, Audi, BMW and especially VW.

I had mentioned this to someone else. Link disappeared, but appeared again with an increase in price of £1200

Looking to get an S-Class (W221) shape.

Any suggestions what to look out for, common problems, etc. What would be a good budget and year?

Sobre wine and tan always looks good on a car with grunt. I think it looks a little try hard and a little poor on a 520d but on something with serious balls <makes internationally recognised gesture for testicular fortitude> it looks very correct

I have put down a deposit on a 2007 Audi A6 (C6) 4.2 FSI Quattro and will be picking it up in January or as soon as my Golf sells smile. At over 4.9m long and 1770kg of leather lined luxury it definitely qualifies as a barge. I was surprised what a rude noise it made, I was expecting it to be whisper quiet but you can tell there's a V8 in there from 50yds away!

What do we reckon the odds on it horrendously bankrupting me are?

I had a look at this a couple of months ago (or more).
I've not driven any Merc before let alone one of these.
Bit of a thrummy wizzy noise at idle. Does the supercharger belt make a noise?
Drove OK for all of the couple of miles I could.
Paintwork was as tired as the mileage suggests. Wheels refurbed. Interior fair,

Interesting dealer & site,

regards,
Jet

M5? I though one owner and was moving in their own car. It's listed as a trade sale.

I've looked at a couple of CL500's ; lovely cars if you are happy with them being a long term proposition, selling them on is extremely hard according to a few mates in the trade. Nice one in Merc Southampton with Night Vision etc.
Maintenance costs not that much higher than an E or S class.
Bizarrely what put me off was the insurance quotes i got back- 3x what i pay on a Lexus LS today. Some companies did not want to even quote on it.

One hell of a barge though- 5m plus and wider than it looks too.

Forgot to add; Depreciation is an absolute killer in first 3-4 years with these.
Year old CL63 which was £90+ new, advertised for £69k but immediately offered at £59k. It's only done 8000 miles.
3 year old car with 6000 miles 59k , 80k new.

Selling one privately without a warranty would be the motoring equivalent of Ebola.

I wouldn't expect higher running costs than an S-class, it more or less is one.

That benefits from not having an all black interior. I find that really spoils a lot of Mercs.

My father in law had a new 600 that shape in 2007, sure it was about £110k new - sold it after 6 months. I haven't ever had the guts to ask what he got for it at 6 months old.
