Top marks for engine though.

Considering the F11 550i in that thread last month was 30k, on the face of it that is a bargain. Top marks for engine though.

It's just a shame it's so fugly and in such a poor colour.
I do enjoy this thread and wish it were livelier so thought I'd contribute with this beauty.
Would it be ruinous or does the high mileage indicate what will go wrong has?

Aren't these effectively a Phaeton W12 in a posh frock? (Not saying it's a bad thing, but maybe no need to fear the bork factor)

195mph and sub 10mpg Urban, proper barge, with real class for under £20k.
Would still make you smile every time your wallet is being emptied.

E63 down in budj get? Want one and then bosh on a stainless switchy exhaust.
211 63s seem to be in the 15-23k range now but cheapest 212 is still £26k. Also at the lower end of the 212s you'd be trying to avoid buying one of mB Brooklands old cars that spent days going round in circles at full pelt. jke11y said:

Didn't know they had got that 'cheap'... Will hopefully be nicely in range when I get tired of my 545i Touring and want a little 'more' Morning all
My barging for the winter is sorted - just taken possession of an A8 3-litre, black and black, 08 plate and 62,000 miles. Made sure the suspension works, had the gearbox oil changed, can finish the running in at my leisure....
So here's the question...I have a Superchips Bluefin handset in the garage, with a map for the same engine, but in an A6 I had a few years back. I remember it being a reasonable improvement, nothing earth-shaking, but smoother and more responsive. Things have moved on a little since then I think, and the gains promised on the Superchips site are quite impressive: from 229 to 278 bhp, and from 450 to 561 Nm of torque.
The A8 is clearly a pretty well-engineered piece of kit, so if I do this I doubt it will explode the first time I touch the throttle, but wondered if there is any experience on here of this, and anything I should watch out for?
Thanks

Hello stranger! That's the face I pull when I visit you, isn't it - Please sir!A friend is getting rid of his M5 V10 Touring... Hmmm...
M5 V10? They're likely a hot, slightly unhinged girlfriend. Fine for a while but best to pass on before they break your heart and empty your wallet with extreme prejudice.

Hi Dom! Fair point though I always try to make it as painless as possible.

You know I like them that way (the current Mrs.9 is lovely and calm... if she's reading this)!M5 V10? They're likely a hot, slightly unhinged girlfriend. Fine for a while but best to pass on before they break your heart and empty your wallet with extreme prejudice.
I like the 545/550i because they have the capacity, torque and power of M-cars from not so far back but without the M-tax.
My fear is that the SMG 'box would be ruinous on that V10... But the engine!!!!
They also seem to be holding their money pretty well now. A low mileage 550i Touring may be a safer next move.

. My bro had an SlK55 and it was a cracking car - he had the exhaust mods done and it sounded excellent. Quick, well built and I think in 55 form they still look fresh. The only thing I thought was some of the plastics in the cabin were average.
Speaking of x55 AMG... this looks good value at 8k.
