I've always liked the look of these but bloody hell it looks low rent inside. Is it really that bad?

The door cards remind me of my old MK3 Mondeo.

They were owned by Ford right?

Someone actually sent me the link to that one earlier - looks very nice although perhaps a bit too close to the 650i that I recently came out of.
Excuse time - it's quite far away too...

And I'm getting budget creep to an XFR

What are door cards supposed to look like?

Hadn't Ford sold them to Tata by the time this was launched? The old XK interior had a few parts bin bits and wasn't the most ergonomic design but was absolutely sumptuous. I did the Browns Lane factory tour while it was in production - the craftsmanship was phenomenal for a car of the price, they were actually stitching the leather and finishing the wood veneer trim by hand.

This just looks like a well specced repmobile. Maybe its better in the metal?

Dashboard, armrest, doorcards are all leather FYI.

Re interior - It doesn't photograph well. It's a great place to sit and a fantastic steer. View out over the bonnet makes up for penny pinching inside in terms of design.

Yes.

Once you get past that cheap plastic (or buy a different spec) the rest of the car is great. Cramped, but great.

Some DB9s have a similar plastic-sprayed-silver look that really doesn't work for me at all.

In what way?

I found the interior of even the earliest XFs to have very good interiors. Excellent leather and wood veneers, and they feel certainly no worse built than a 5 Series or E Class of a comparable age.

Some of the materials in early XKs did look/feel a bit iffy but the later cars were better.

Re: XK. I'd rather have a reasonable interior with an aluminium chassis, sexy looks and reliability, rather than a typical German with a slowly rusting chassis and typical dodgy mechanics. So chose what is more important. Door cars are about one million on my list of priorities.

Lots of painted plastic, squeaky, creaky, some bits crack easily, poor fit, plasticky buttons from an 80s hi-fi that often don't work first time... Stuff like that. Didn't help that all the ergonomics were toss and the electronics linterfacs ooked like it was 10 years out of date from new.

This is all aesthetics, not touching reliability.

I agree. I was once given an XF as a loan car when my old XJR went in for a service. My one lasting impression of the interior was - "1980s Matsui". Wasn't impressed. The car was actually very good to drive though other than that. smile

I know there's a thread for ruined cars, but comedy exhaust and twin headlamps aside, this has potential.

Thought I would add that I just bought something that was well in this thread budget.

2007 57 BMW 330i M Sport Auto Saloon. Black with Lemon/Beige and Black interior, full media etc. Mileage? 17,000!

Pics to follow.

Not sure a 3 series is a barge, but congrats on the purchase nonetheless.

This grabbed my eye

Last example of the sort of cars that made BMW great? Decently powerful NASP I6 engine, manual gearbox, RWD. I'm tempted by that, knowing full well it'll be hell to shift on.
