What's the catch with this?

If I was in the £15k market I wouldn't hesitate eek
Looks very nice - the next service might have spark plugs being changed, so that'll be c£1k for the standard according to the MB website.

I'm on the long term look for a second fun (power barge/SUV or sports) car that can seat 4 - this might make that list. Assuming it doesn't fail with spectacular cost regularly
Wow I was browsing for V12 CLs too then I read this....£1k just to change spark plugs??? eek

The power train in the CL 600 will be stunning. I bought the same one in a different body shape recently.

Are these twin turbo too?

Hmmmm I could still live with it even at that price - for some reason I expect the odd 'Bentley-esque' bill (bloody man maths).

Also would it be as dear at an indy? Always seemed the PH mantra was it was bonkers to take cars to a main dealer as a indy generally can do it cheaper and still stamp the book?

Reckon that is one catch unearthed for most though so well played biggrin

Aha indy was the word I was looking for!

I'd imagine half that at an indy.

A quick google found the OEM plugs (NGK platinums) at c £160 on ebay - so I'd guess c£300-£400 at an indy for the plug change?

Change of plugs could surely be done at home?

Most mechanical bits can be done at home. It depends on your willingness to get your hands dirty / risk / having some tools / not sure what else?

The real question here is if plug change needs any computer programming - which I think is unlikely.

Here's a how to. Look at the coil pack! "Try not to distort it as you could render it useless" yikes

If it's £500 just for that job I'd be certain that it's complex. It's that cost for a reason not just to take the piss.

£100+ an hour might have something to do with it though.

You say that but an Abarth dealer quoted me £200 to replace the "lifetime" plugs on my 500. They could at least have the decency to wear a fking mask!

That still equates to 5 hours labour for a trained tech. Just go to a specialist and suck it up. No one is going to want a complex barge that the owner has been hitting with a hammer themselves to save a few quid. Barging is occasional big cost! The trick is to avoid the costly times, not skimp on them when you get caught.

It's not 500 labour if it's a 500 quid job. 24 platinum plugs will probably set you back 200. Then it's two hours plus vat labour. Sounds about right.

I might be getting too tempted... been looking through some MB forums and saw a write up for DIY replacement. Took 2 hours (another took 5 hours with some hard to remove plugs), so wouldn't be surprised if MB was charging 2-2.5hrs hours labour and £10/plug = c£500
