That still equates to 5 hours labour for a trained tech. Just go to a specialist and suck it up. No one is going to want a complex barge that the owner has been hitting with a hammer themselves to save a few quid. Barging is occasional big cost! The trick is to avoid the costly times, not skimp on them when you get caught.
You don't have to tell me about big costs. biggrin

I was not talking about doing it yourself, just that going by dealer prices alone is always going to make things worse than they need to be.

Speaking of big costs these are getting closer and closer to thread budget. Aside from the guy on PH who got first refusal on one for £22k on one in 2012 I haven't seen one this cheap until now...

They share the same running gear as my Phaeton and a few instruments too. Not sure I like the looks either and the fact there isn't a V10 oil burner option.

I agree. They're just a bit bloated and fat to my eyes.

Indeed, having 750 Nm of torque at just over tick over as standard which is easily re-mapped to nearly 900Nm and 30 MPG would make it st wouldn't it.

This is why diesel sucks, you need to explain how much torque it has to try and make it sound appealing.

You might love your car, but not only is tyre-shredding torque and OK-ish fuel consumption not the solution to every problem, but at the very least you have to admit it would hardly be adhering to Bentley brand values. I am sure as diesels go it's quite refined, but any smoke is too much smoke, and anything less than silky smooth is too rough for a Bentley. They're meant to be an engineering pinnacle. I'm no Bentley fan boy, but it just seems a bit silly to me.

Well, it would be quite a lot slower than a normal one.

I can assure you the only sound you hear when you put your foot down is a deep rumble which sounds very nice, most of the time the car/engine is virtually silent. Lets face it in the past Bentleys have always had big loud engines. Not any noticeable smoke either. Either way I wouldn't say no to a Bentley with this engine myself.

Bentley will add a diesel engine to its line-up in the future. VW Group boss Martin Winterkorn confirmed the engine won't be a V10, meaning it will be either a V8 or V12. Speaking to Autocar, he said: “Diesel for Bentley is decided. It won’t be a V10. But the V10 is not dead within the VW Group; there will be a successor.”

Ettore Bugatti described them as the Fastest Lorries in the World so maybe a diesel would be quite suitable. Along with a fifth wheel trailer.

I might be getting too tempted... been looking through some MB forums and saw a write up for DIY replacement. Took 2 hours (another took 5 hours with some hard to remove plugs), so wouldn't be surprised if MB was charging 2-2.5hrs hours labour and £10/plug = c£500
Not gonna flog the bm are you?

People always neglect to mention the small matter of two turbos when claiming their Phaetons have Bentley running gear. smile

Presumably that Bentley would be a world of bork and empty one's wallet more quickly than its fuel tank?
