What do we think of the price? I'm actually quite tempted. And what kind of motorway mpg do these actually deliver? Looking for a family wagon to complement my increasingly pampered e39 M5, but would like slightly better cruise economy laugh

Price seems reasonable to me if it works for you and all checks out etc. I wouldn't buy it as I'm not a fan of the grey leather or the SE looks. The wheels can be fixed but I'm not a fan of the bumpers.

Seems a bit high to me - sub-£8k would be preferable. SE definitely not as desirable as Sport spec when you come to sell it, but SE suspension and dynamic drive is my favoured chassis spec. And being mistaken for unmarked plod on the motorway is not to be sniffed at.

The biggest downsides with that one are the grey dakota leather (upgrade leather in a nicer colour for preference) and the fact that it's tipped over 100k miles so you can't put a comprehensive BMW warranty on it. Also, being May 06 it falls in the £500 road tax bracket, but if it had been registered just a couple of months earlier it would avoid it.

Its the worst of both worlds - prefacelift but with higher tax. It does have a nice spec but is expensive for the mileage.

I wouldn't get too hung up on colour of the interior. At the end of the day it is a rare car and with something like a 520d you can be choosy, as there are so many of them.

If it had lower mileage I'd forgo the tax and buy it.

As for MPG on the motorway, in my experience in an LCI automatic on 18" wheels, around 28-30. You'll maintain 33-35 if you trundle along at 60. As this car has 17" wheels you might sneak an extra bit of MPG.

My thoughts as well, really. In SE (although I like my SE) spec with 100k miles, higher tax etc I think it looks a bit pricey. However, how often do these come up for sale? If you want one, you kind of have to pay the asking price.

I reckon we (PHers) may own ALL the e61 V8s on our 'Beard' thread in the BMW forum soon!

I've had two 545i Tourings and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has multiple E61 V8s; we should start a register smile

So as not to clog up the thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Perhaps mine (RY54 ZZR) was one of yours?

I bought an estate version about 3 months ago. Love it, and it really is incredibly fast even compared to the latest cars - way faster than I thought they were until I started reading up and watching some YT videos.

My wife drives it to work every day and we've done a couple of London to Glasgow trips and it averages about 23mpg.

Nice, I don't think the wheels are right. They're usually twin spokes..

Don't you worry, there's still plenty of possible bork.

I'd love a black one of those.

I'd be amazed if these were slow considering they have a 480bhp supercharged 5.4 litre v8. In anyone's book that has to be a big number.

I'm sure. Stick with the M5 then, on a better the devil you know basis...

This thread has perked up recently smile

I'm in the market for something to replace my CLS63 AMG. Need something with 5 seats. Any recommendations? Basically something moderately large, quite fast, petrol V8... essentially like the CLS but with 5 seats hehe Budget £5k - £15k. E63 AMG one obvious candidate; any others?
