Whats the consensus on the Mk3 Mercedes CL's (I don't know the model code)? I thought they would pop up in the discussion more frequently than they do.

I'm liking the look of this for 18.5 bags.

Looks nice but this sounds almost pedestrian

Looks sublime and rammed with kit but the bork factor must be epic?

This has 388bhp. I'm pretty sure it's 5.4 sec to that figure, PH stats are incorrect

It's been a while since I listed anything on here, but IIRC, can't you enter whatever performance stats you like?

Google seems to agree. 5.5 seconds for the atmosphere v8. The twin turbo v12 600 is less than 5 seconds. Allegedly nearer to 4.5 if you get a good launch. Found a 2007 cl600 in silver for 23 here...

I had a V8 CLS. Good for the motorway but pretty crap elsewhere - too damn large and fat for any fun. The bills can potentially be interesting too, although I escaped unscathed. I wouldn't sink more than £9k into one for what they are (stylish mini cabs).

Agreed but the CL is a totally different ball game, Shirley?

I picked up a barge bargain last week - a 2002 e39 530D m-sport for a touch over £2k.

I was after a fairly cheap example as I was not wanting to spend a lot, I was expecting a few issues at this price and know a few suffer with corrosion.
Blow me down, what a car for the money - I may well have got lucky, but I think these cars are incredible value for money at the moment - this example has minimal corrosion, full BMW service history, loads of creature comforts (cruise, xenon.etc) and doesnt hang around either.
Dont get me wrong, it needs a little tlc - but nothing I cant sort out myself (refurbished the wheels this weekend) & the propshaft needs a new damper.
Overall, very happy and glad I didnt go for a later 535d as I had originally planned.

I am sure the CL would be an improvement. However I am not convinced they will be a completely different animal altogether. They are large heavy cars which are focused towards motorway cruising.

Well the entry price of an e class makes them mini cabs in the european market. The cls is based on the e class. The entry price for an S class is a different proposition and the CL is based on this.

Well, quite. It's like comparing an SLK with a full-fat SL. Nothing wrong with either in it's own market, but different platforms and different materials standards, aimed at very different pockets and competitive landscapes when new.

Looks like my four year old installed the rear screens. The whole car doesn't appear well cared for. No thanks.
