Why do you imagine they will offer anything like retail price? Of course it's going to be a low price, they are just buying into stock, for onward disposal.
Basically by accepting their offer, you are paying for the ease of sale. Their operation isn't designed and doesn't claim to get you the best price for your car. It's one of the easiest ways of turning your car into cash. that's all.

The First thing I'll say is that the quote you get by email is the opening gambit. I was offered just over 2k for my golf but once the chap at carcraft in Chertsey had given it a once over (and I had been absolutely honest when asking for a quote by the way so had told them about the lack of history, all the dents on the bodywork etc etc) he came back and offered me £1300. I eventually got him upto £1,750 but that was it.
I wish I'd just gone for the best quote ever (ie the car is perfect) because all he did was read the problems and start to take those off the quote price rather than read it that these had already been taken into account on the quote. Plus he went out to the car with his mind already made up that it was a problem car and that the price needed chipping massively.
He admitted that all they do is wash them, get the paperwork in order and ship 'em out to the next car auction and hope to make a turn on the vehicles. He said he hoped to make £200 on mine (at £1,750 eventual offer).
When I declined to take his offer he just shrugged and said he really didn't have time to argue the toss as he had another 10 customers waiting in the waiting room (which he did - I'd sat with them whilst he was dealing with others.) Bear in mind my appt was 1.30pm on a saturday - imagine how many cars he'd already seen that day and done a deal on?
It's an absolute gold mine in my opinion.
