I'd say give it a chance. If you can realistically give people Private Sale value and still make money yourselves, then all the best. If there are companies such as WBAC operating on giving people the least and, from what I've read here, most ridiculous valuations - and they are getting business, then it stands to reason if you give people better valuations you could take that business.
Thanks fathomfive. Thats the spirit!

They are everything that is wrong with the car business - impolite, churn merchants, preying on those to fearful to sell their own vehicles, offering 'hardly tolerable' (ie Black book 'trade poor') web quotes then dropping them by 35% upon meeting and working on 50% of people will have decided to sell before they walk in, and hence grab at any cash offered...

They are not draft at all but hardly something to be admired - wouldn't touch them with a very smelly, sharp & long barge pole.

£1,545... sweet, that's £45 more than I paid for it 5,000 miles ago. But I knew I got a bargain and I wouldn't be able to get a better car for the same money, so they can stick it!

Eh? They're not forcing you to use them, they're just playing to the national desire for instant gratification.

A friend of my wife, against my advice, actually followed through with them. Online quote was £800. When she turned up with the car, they reneged and offered her £100.

So don't think that the online quote is as bad as it might get!

Why are people so insulted that they offer a low price for your car? Is it really a surprise?

What car was that. Although £100 is taking the piss, you can get more for scrapping it!

"Yeah, but I saw one on a forecourt the other day the same as mine that was up for £xxxx, so mine must be worth nearly that!"

Its astonishing how clueless the general public are when it comes to valuing their own vehicles.....

There was a profile the other week in the Sunday Times about the head honcho at webuyanycar. He's an ex-footballer with no interest in cars at all - just saw a chance to make money.

Sums it all up to my mind. Though he obviously isn't clueless if he's making money.

It has been mentioned that a lot of theses cars go through the auction, that is correct. A lot also get bought by the buyers of their parent company Carcraft. These are then ditributed nationwide and it does look like the average PPU is about £2500-3000. I have my own opinions about this. Whilst I do think that it is a great idea for making money, its very sad that business has to degrade itself into stooping so low as to buy cars at such a low rate off what I would call very vulnerable people. Whilst the recent consumer regulations closed many of the loopholes used by companies such as Carcraft they have opened up new pastures that the Mckees can milk dry.

The only way to stop this is to vote with your feet. If you dont go there then you can not be done.

WBAC in Pymouth has now closed so thats a start. I dont wish them all to close I just want fairer prices paid to their customers.

How dare you! Those things are a pile of junk FWD understeering overhyped shopping trolley. More like £250.

This thread makes me laugh, a lot of the prices being quoted aren't far off the mark to be honest.
If your car isn't a particularly nice example and you want to part exchange it, then the garage you are part exchanging it with, the trader that are buying it off them, or the buyer at the auction isn't going to want to pay more than bottom book for it anyway, which is basically what these guys are quoting you when you make an enquiry!

I see it purely as a numbers game, I bet they make minimal profit per unit on each one they buy in unless it is going to be tarted up and retailed at Cargiant or whatever it is called. People don't realise how much spend there is on an average car to get it to an acceptable retail standard. If I bought a 3 owner L reg VR6 Corrado you have to assume say, a £400 spend to get it retail ready, then peg it up for £1495 and wait to get bid in the nuts on it. People just don't like to know the true value of their cars and automatically assume the garage makes a fortune on selling it on. </Rantmode>

i took my 18 months old car to the chertsey branch , I was told I would get £9,700 so I thought hell why not . They took it at the back and they told me it has rust on the quarter panel and its been crashed and badly fixed .

They offered me £8,300 just because i made the trip down to them and they told me for them its a trade car and it would go to straight to the auction.

It is possible it did happen as i find myself sleep walking and with no remaining memory for weeks !

NOT!
