go boris go!

now let's abolish the CC once and for all, clean up the road of speed cameras, better traffic light timing and eliminate bottlenecks on the roads.

Plenty to do but what a great start! smile

well done

Boris is a complete fool. There was an opportunity to encourage small economical more environmentally friendly cars but he chose to bow to Porsche and benefit the users of gas guzzling cars.

I love peformance cars in the right environment but central London is not the right place. Furthermore this move will just encourage the housewives to drive Range Rovers and Cayennes into the zone.

At the very least sub 120g/km vehicles should have been encouraged over heavy poluting vehicles.

If Ken cared that much he would have banned all ICE from London altogether and only allowed electric cars, trucks, trains, trams and taxis, assuming their chrage came from renewable sources, but he didn't, because he was a communist envy fuelled control freak who would rather implement an easy tax on easy targets that deal with any problems head on.

Also, how many embassies did he take to court for non payment of the charge, vs the amount of Joe's who had not payed?
Well the embassys should pay if they insist on carrying one ambassador in a car that is unsuitable for London. They could easily also use a sensible city car or is it important that the ambassador of some tin pot nation is transported arround London in a 7 Series? (I am so impressed when I see the ambassador of some nation of poor country in a big BMW/Mercedes)

This is not envy based simply making people use sensible cars within London. I would rather drive a low CO2 car in London than ride a bicycle.

Looks like a double whammy against Ken because Porsche *also* won the judicial review in the courts. Here is an email I've just received.

Porsche said:
July 2008 Legal campaign update -Porsche wins victory in congestion charge challenge Thank you very much for your support as we challengedMayor Livingstone's proposed £25 congestion charge in London. As you saw for yourself, the congestion charge was a major issuein the mayoral campaign and the candidate who opposed thisextension, Boris Johnson, was elected Mayor. I am pleased to inform you that, today, the Administrative Courtin London has approved a consent order quashing the increase tothe charge.

The new Mayor's legal team accepted that theprevious Mayoral administration should have taken into accountresearch from King's College which showed that the new chargewould actually increase CO2 emissions in Greater London and, consequently that the new charge could, in fact, be unlawful. Porsche has always been confident that the legal case was rightand now we are proud to have played a decisive role in strikingdown such a blatantly political tax targeting motorists.

It is expected that significant legal costs will be awarded andPorsche has decided to donate those costs to a fantastic charitycalled Skidz, which takes at-risk young people and trains them inmotor vehicle maintenance and mechanics. This gives them thetools and confidence they need to find gainful employment andavoid a life of crime. The support from Porsche will allow Skidz to open a facility inHillingdon, providing this opportunity to young Londoners forthe first time.

If you have any further comments or questions, you can contactPorsche directly by e-mail at judicial.review@porsche.co.uk ortelephone 08457 911 911. Thank you again for your support which was tremendouslyencouraging and important to the challenge.

Yours sincerely,

Listen Ken, would you prefer it if richer families who can afford to shell out on 3-4 low emission cars adding to the congestion to bypass the charge to your normal working family who may only be able to afford one larger and slightly less efficient car?

Some people are absolutely thick as f*ck or like others say - another troll.
Exactly why does a family need 3 to 4 low emission vehicles rather than one Cayenne? I was not aware that we were discussion the merits of 7 seat MPVs here. Most cars have 4 or 5 seats, a low CO2 vehicle is just as effective as a large SUV at carrying passengers. (Incidentally, a large SUV such as a Range Rover or Cayenne etc does cause more congestion than a small town car for those that bleat on that this is not an environmental charge).

You are missing the point, people with the means (they may simply not want to sit with the rest of their family when enterng the zone) may have opted to obtain several smaller low emission vehicles to bypass congestion charges whereas your average working family would be forced to pay this charge every single time as they can only afford a single (and less efficient) car. I thought it would be pretty simple for even a commie like you.wink

Where does the expression 'Congestion Charge' fit into that rant?

Boris is probably now driving a brand new Porsche at the weekends!
He'd be on one of these.

I have no interest in anyone's opinion using that particular phrase as it has nothing to do with the word "Congestion".

Well said, 1000 Fiats in a traffic jam aren't going to be causing less congestion than 1000 Range Rovers.

Boris Johnson is a god, even funnier in that charity football match when he nutted that other guy. When he totally gets rid of the CC I think he should be made PM.

Commendations for Porsche for getting the sensible outcome but something else needs to be done at times like this. What ever the outcome Joe public has ended up with the bill.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's the revenue from our taxes paying for this.
You know who to blame for that... Show your contempt for the man by sending packets of st to:

London taxis are now the single most common vehicle in the City. Ken made them exempt from the Congestion Charge. And if you check on the official government website you will see that even a brand-new one falls into Emission Band G. Spot the bad decision there?

Porsche contested the increase and Andy Goss, managing director of Porsche Cars Great Britain said: "We were always confident that our legal case was right and that we would win in the end"

Yeah, but if Ken was still in wouldn't they still be fighting? They haven't won, they have just been fortunate because we now have a new Mayor who has a different stance.

Actually, the majority of ambassador cars are not armoured.
