The Mk5 one was nice to drive, lacked power but handled nicely.

The new one looks utterly crap though. I'm sure there'll be loads of middle aged women buying them though, because they look "sporty"

It just doesn't look like a fiesta anymore.

All the previous ones, even from Mk5 to Mk6/7 you could still tell it was a fiesta and somehow still looked similar. But this just looks wrong, sort of mash up of new focus/mondeo mixed in with some honda supermini and citron C2.

Definatly prefer my old Mk4.

Why are they bothering to make a big deal of this? Its just a trim level, will they be having press releases for every one, S, SE etc or whatever ?

It's not as if this has got anyone worth getting excited over, its hugely ugly and it's insanely slow for a 'warm' hatch, hell it's slow for a warm bus... I'm amazed they want to draw peoples attention to these embarassing figures.

I had a 206 XSi that was 10bhp down on that, had more kit as standard, was a second quicker to 60 almost and looked vastly superior to that epic fail of car. And that was years ago, talk about going backwards. Pathetic.

0-60 9.9! Even if the chasis is going to be sweet, isn't that just a little too slow?
Could be worse: Jost Capito was bragging that the new RS would have a 0-60 time of "under 6 seconds"

With 300 BHP? I should f**king cocoa! With that much power it should be around 5 seconds!

Bring back the good old days of car design where safety and CO2 wasent an issue smile the government, modern legislation and "green taxes" has killed the good old days of motoring frown not fair frown not allowed any little pleasures in life now thanks to the pricks we call the government biggrin

I like it. Its lighter, faster and more economical than the old model and will probably be top if its class in the handling department.

The 1.6 derv with a remap would make the ideal commuter car but with plenty of poke for overtaking.

The joys of modern legislation led design:

Probably got insanely long gearing to trim the CO2 emissions, so change up from redline to somewhere well under powerband in the next cog. Result is that in real world driving I'd guess it gets no-where near the official CO2 & MPG figures.

The teeny wheels are an optical illusion caused by the vast sidepanels and high 'kind-to-pedheads' bonnet line.
It probably has one of those new fangled throttle smoothing setups that gradually bring the throttle in over a 5 second period after you stab it. Personally I think the driver should decide on a level of mechanical sympathy appropriate to the situation.

My wife had a 2001 1.3 Fiesta Flight (the older 90's shape) and it was great, especially for a new driver given the enormous visibility. Obviously the engine was ste, but it handled great. The new one just looks like someone has taken a Galaxy and squished it from several angles.

yes the current one (mine) with a remap is a great daily driver and a few long a and b road trips have proved it has enough poke for overtaking so a lighter one would be nice.

Then again lightening a car and putting me in it is a waste of time rolleyes

well i guess its fairly daring in the style stakes for a baby Ford..
Looks alright i guess. Rear 45 is a bit dodgy but hey....

Just looks like an average style (ish) over substance, cheapish, cleanish, normalish car with slowish performance...

Ok if you've just passed ur test.. Back to sleep... sleep

I tested the current model and thought the mid range accel was good, but it flattered to deceieve, as it didn't keep the effort up over the whole power band. I take it your remap gives it approx. the same power as the Focus spec which would sort the problem.

I could guess the current generation didn't get the full spec diesel powertrain as it may not have been available when the car was originally designed, so didn't fit. There should have been time to sort it for this generation.

Current one is limited for both gearbox torque limit and emmisions. Specifically only the econetic 1.6 110PS gets under the £35 120g/km bracket in either Peugeots or Fords, the 110PS in the next bracket. That ans insrance means you get 90PS

Remap is very risky, torque in high gears isnt an issue, but you loose 1/2nd gear limtis, so be nice or you will have problems later in life with box/clutch etc.

Not sure about this new one, has a ZS TDCi (nice car, awful economy though) and missus on on her 3rd ST(we like em), so will probably get one, waiting to see what the new ST loks like. Interior and exterior are both growers hopefully?

Mine has managed 30k with no issues, not even a minor niggle and 20,000 of those are post remap. I do nurse the car in 1st and 2nd gear because of losing the torque limit. Will find out what if any issues crop up in time I imagine as I plan to keep this car until it dies.
