My next car will be a pre-2001 bargetastic bargain... Anything after the tax change simply won't sell any more IMO.

Nice of Gordo to completely fk the used car market up yes

I've had a look - and cars similar to mine are advertised anywhere between £6.5k upwards.

Doesn't mean they are selling though....

Nail. Head.

Regardless of what the book says, all the traders are paying way behind book for anything at the moment.

Whats the mileage ? Main Dealer Service history full and up to date ? Any options over standard ? Being manual, not Steptronic and without leather could be reason enough for the low part ex offer......

Range Rover Vogue TD6's are roughly £5K BEHIND trade book for 04/54s onwards. I am now telling customer that I do not want their 2.0 petrol engined car(that isnt a retail car for me, higher miles etc) in part exchange as I am not getting any bids for them in auction. I would rather do that thatn upset them with an offer thats less than half of what they want!

530i Sport. Silver. Alcantara. Manual. Rain sensor. (think this is the only option as Sport spec is high). 73k miles. Immaculate. FBMWSH. Inspection 2 was the last service done.

You will need to act fairly quickly as at the end of this month the new CAP and Glasses are out, and they will show a big drop this month due to the slow market.. So your Px figure will be hit heavy and it wont be reflected in the value of the car your looking to purchase.

£6.5 is a bit optimistic IMO but no that far off

seems like it was an opportunistic bid or he might already have enough barges on the plot to spin

This was a VW main dealer who has been calling traders asking for a quote. He would not sell it himself.

I was expecting a worse offer of £5k to start, then him to chip £1k off his £17k Gti and then we may have had a deal.

rather than trying to haggle two deals did you ask him for the cost to change?

I find it easier to wear them down that way

This is absolutely disgraceful, the country is in big trouble due in part to global influences. The American property fiasco and the price of oil. And this government think up a scheme that intensifies the problems. Bin laden and his pals could not have thought up a better way to fk up the economy. How about doubling stamp duty to help the building trade. rage

This Chancellor appears to think on his feet, without considering the ramifications of his actions, bleeding scary or what !

Yeh - I told him this morning I was just interested in cost to change - I'd set it at £10k - £11k being realistic.

I'm not after finance, yet not sure if this is an advantage, as they probably make money off it. frown

It's completely fubar.

Several lots round here have noticeably lower stocks than normal - must be cashing in and reselling only eco(ish) cars.

Ref Dunk76's comments of a while back - much of the heavy metal out there is worth not just substantially less than it was/ever has been but conceivably nil.

This will extend beyond the current economic turmoil and reflects the beginning of the end for the cars where ownership is an automotive channel for the libido.

A fitting swansong befitting the complete failure of Nulabia's disasterous reign.

£3000 is bang on the money in this present climate

Derestrictor,

I wholly blame you for my purchase of this car in February! It was your Bargain Barge threads that got me thinking what good value a big motor would be!!!

Not really, it's my fault for changing my car so bloody often.

Cheers.

yes Seen this from the other side trying to part ex my old 99 Jeep Cherokee. I know it isnt worth a lot but was suprised when dealers turned round and said they wouldnt make an offer on it. I am thinking of giving up and scrapping it as I have been offerd £250 scrap value for it.
